Willis Joe Jones of Oologah died Wednesday, April 15, 2020, at his home. He was born in Tulsa on September 30, 1957, the son of George Willis Jones and Irene Kay Jones. Willis worked as an independent contractor for all of his life, most recently running a dustless blasting business. He was a skilled craftsman and carpenter, having built fences and decks professionally, and was generally known as a fix-it man who could complete any task from electrical to plumbing. Willis was also kind and generous. He was always willing to help friends and family, even at a moment’s notice. His most treasured skills were with children, who recognized his playful spirit and loved him immediately, affectionately referring to him as “Uncle Juny Bug.” He loved riding his Harley motorcycle, hunting in the Kiamichi Mountains, and, when he was younger, skydiving. He often said that he had gone up in many airplanes, but never landed in one. He is preceded in death by his father, Willis. He is survived by his mother, Irene; his sister, Ilene (Dindy) Frank; his brother, Tony Jones; his uncle, Guy Atchley; nieces Summer Frank-Pearce, Lela VanOver, and Candice McCoy; nephews Travis Jones and Tyler Jones; as well as many cousins, great nieces and nephews, and friends who were beloved as family. Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Collinsville Dolton Funeral Home of Collinsville. Juny was much loved and will be sorely missed. He was a self-described simple man. As such, the family is planning a memorial gathering for all friends and loved ones to attend and reminisce at a later date.
