William Earl Lonkerd

William Earl Lonkerd, a devoted husband, father, and proud veteran, passed away peacefully on August 6, 2026, in Tulsa, Oklahoma, at the age of 94. Born on December 7, 1931, in Dayton, Ohio, William lived a long and fulfilling life defined by integrity, service, and dedication to his family and country.

William’s journey began in Dayton, where his early years laid the foundation for a life characterized by curiosity, learning, and a steady sense of duty. He was a scholar at heart, earning a Master’s Degree that not only reflected his commitment to education but also propelled him into a distinguished career.

Answering the call to serve, William dedicated many years to his nation through proud service in both the United States Air Force and Navy. His unwavering commitment did not go unnoticed, and he carried the discipline and values gained from his military experience into every aspect of his life. After his time in the armed forces, William continued his service in public life, retiring with honor from both the United States Navy and the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA).

William’s sense of community and camaraderie was further evidenced by his longstanding involvement in organizations devoted to veterans and public service. He belonged to the Masonic Lodge, Retired Navy Veterans, Veterans Association, and the American Legion, contributing faithfully and building lasting friendships throughout his journey.

Beyond professional achievements, William’s personal passions brought him joy and fulfillment. He was an avid ham radio operator and enjoyed working on radios. William also collected coins and spent time laboring over an old car—a testimony to his patient nature and love for hands-on work. He also had a passion for gardening and growing things. William loved walking around observing nature, animals, people and life. He especially loved surveying the fruits of his labor in his garden. He enjoyed life through the community dances with his wife and loved ones.

William was deeply devoted to his family. He leaves behind his beloved wife, Diana Kay Lonkerd, whose steadfast presence was a constant source of support and love. His legacy lives on through his children, Victoria, Michael and Paula, and many grandchildren and great grandchildren. His granddaughter will carry special memories with her as she stepped in to be his caretaker for 3 months. William was preceded in death by his parents, Michael and Harriet (Williamson) Lonkerd; his daughters Michelle and Christine; and two wives. The love he had for both his surviving and departed family members was an unfailing source of strength in his life.

To honor and commemorate William’s life, a visitation will be held on August 12, 2026, from 2:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Collinsville Dolton Funeral Home, located at 1302 West Main Street, Collinsville, OK. The family will be present to greet friends from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm. A Funeral Service will follow on August 13, 2026, at 2:00 pm at Oologah United Methodist Church, 5834 East 410 Road, Oologah, OK.

William Earl Lonkerd will be remembered for his selfless service, passionate pursuits, and unwavering devotion to his loved ones. His memory will remain an enduring inspiration for all who had the privilege of knowing him.
