William Stanley “Pat” Flanagan Jr.

William Stanley Flanagan Jr., affectionately known as “Pat” and to many as “Mr. Pat,” of Collinsville, Oklahoma, passed away on August 14, 2026, at the age of 79.

Pat was born August 1, 1947, in Collinsville, Oklahoma, to William S. “Mike” Flanagan and Ilene Flanagan. An only child, Pat was preceded in death by his parents.

Pat attended Collinsville Schools for all 12 years and graduated in 1965. He went on to earn his Bachelor of Science degree from Western State University in Gunnison, Colorado, in 1969. He later graduated from the University of Tulsa in 1973 with a law degree, earning his Juris Doctorate. Pat passed the bar exam on his first attempt. He was known for his sharp mind and remarkable photographic memory, which served him well throughout his education and professional life. Pat also loved to travel and see the world whenever he had the opportunity.

Pat lived a full and remarkable life, but the titles and accomplishments were never what defined him. He was a banker, attorney, rancher, pilot, outdoorsman, and substitute teacher—but above all, Pat loved God, loved his family, and loved people.

For many years, Pat served as the owner and CEO of American Exchange Bank. He believed in people and believed a person’s word meant something. If someone came into the bank needing help, Pat was known to take them at their word and worry about the paperwork later. That was simply who he was—trusting, generous, and always willing to help someone in need.

Pat was deeply involved in the Collinsville community and throughout the state of Oklahoma. He was a longtime member of Kiwanis in Collinsville, serving in nearly every position over the years, including what he jokingly called “chief cook and bottle washer.” He was also a member of 4-H and FFA and served on the board of the Independent Bankers Association of Oklahoma. Pat also held an Oklahoma state appointment involving the mining industry, another example of the many ways he served his community and state.

Pat had a special connection to the rodeo world and was a longtime supporter of its traditions. He served as a chairperson for Miss Rodeo USA for several years, giving his time and support to an organization that celebrated the western way of life he knew and loved.

Throughout his life, Pat wore many hats. In addition to banking and practicing law, he spent his early adult years ranching. He loved hunting and fishing, was a pilot, and enjoyed scuba diving. He had a lifetime of adventures and even more stories to tell about them.

In his later years, Pat found a special joy in substitute teaching. He truly loved being around the students and sharing stories with them about hunting, fishing, and the old days of Collinsville. He especially loved being a Cardinal, watching students’ activities in the evenings, cheering them on, and being part of their school life beyond the classroom. Mr. Pat was also known for keeping extra food and snacks on hand, just in case a student was hungry. He never wanted anyone around him to go without.

Those who knew Pat described him as a true gentleman. If someone needed something, he would go out of his way to help. He was the kind of man who truly would give someone the shirt off his back. He trusted people, saw the best in them, and rarely had a bad thing to say about anyone. Pat loved with his whole heart.

Nothing, however, meant more to Pat than his family. His son, William S. “Mike” Flanagan III, was not only his son but also his best friend, his buddy, and the center of his world. Pat also loved Shannon like a daughter, cherishing her as part of his family and holding a deep affection and respect for her. His grandchildren and great-granddaughter brought him immense joy, and he loved spending time with them, making memories, and being present in their lives whenever he could.

Pat is survived by his son, William S. “Mike” Flanagan III and wife Shannon; grandson, Trent Flanagan; granddaughter, Ashley Lorg and husband Chase “Tazz” Lorg; and his beloved great-granddaughter, Hadley Kay Lorg.

Pat leaves behind more than a lifetime of accomplishments. He leaves behind an example of how to treat people—with kindness, generosity, trust, and grace. He loved God, he loved his family fiercely, and he found good in the people around him.

Mr. Pat will be deeply missed, but the stories he told, the people he helped, and the love he gave so freely will live on in all who were blessed to know him.
