Waneta Lee (Sims) Shoup

November 6, 1918 — April 11, 2007

Waneta Lee Sims Shoup of Oologah, OK, passed away April 11, 2007 at Sequoyah Pointe Living Center in Owasso, OK. She was born November 6, 1918 at the home of her grandparents, Robert Kellus and Rosalee Lynch Wann, southwest of Oologah, who donated the land for the Wann Cemetery ( also referred to as Sunday Cemetery) where she will be buried on Monday, April 16, 2007 following services at 10:00 a.m. at the Liberty Freewill Baptist Church, Hwy 169, Oologah, OK. Visitation will be Saturday 9:00 a.m. - 8:00 p.m. and Sunday, 1:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. at the Collinsville Funeral Home, 1302 W. Main St., Collinsville, OK.

Waneta grew up in the Collinsville area and graduated from Collinsville High School. She and her husband, William George Shoup, made their home in Hominy, OK, then Claremore, OK and in 1964 built their home outside Oologah, OK (2 1/2 miles south of Hwy 169 on 4090 Rd). Waneta worked at Douglas Aircraft during World War II and then again in the 1960s. She took pride in her homemaking, enjoyed raising her children and spending time with her grandchildren. She was a member of the 1st Methodist Church of Oologah. This kind and gentle woman will be missed by all who knew her.

Waneta is survived by her three children, Joycelene (Joyce) Marie (Shoup) Jackson and husband Gerald (Jerry) Jackson of Oologah, OK, Billie June (Shoup) Thorson Eleves and husband William F. Eleves, Jr. of Okmulgee, OK, and Robert (Bob) Norman Shoup of Tulsa, OK and wife Kim (Gowdy) Shoup; four grandchildren, Gaylene Marie (Jackson) Jones and husband Tony Jones of Oologah, OK, Robert (Robby) Elliott Jackson and wife Cheryl (Beal) Jackson of Oologah, OK, Terrill Paige Thorson currently in the U.S. Army 229th MI Battallion, and Erik Logan Thorson, of Tulsa, OK; great grandchildren, Candice Lee (Jones) Coager and husband Bryan of the U.S. Marine Corp, in 29 Palms, CA, as well as Travis Earl Jones, Tyler Edward Jones, Morgan Lynn Jackson, and Mya Jane Jackson, all of Oologah; and one great great grandson, Bryan Joseph Coager, II. She is also survived by her twin sister, Noweta (Sims) Shell of Tulsa, OK, and her sister Berniece (Sims) Matheson Helming of Strausberg, CO; and numerous nieces and nephews.
