Wallace Gary Ward, Sr.

Wallace Gary Ward Sr. passed away Thursday, October 21, 2010 in his home in Oologah, Ok. He was 78 years old.

Gary was born July 24, 1932 in Tulsa, Ok the son of Clyde Rudolph and Juanita Jessie (Baker) Ward.

Gary grew up in Turley, OK. He attended Tulsa Central and Webster High Schools. He served his country in the US Navy from 1950 to 1954.

Gary was a champion boxer. He began boxing at the age of 14 in 1946 with the Tulsa Boxing Club. Gary was a Golden Glove and AAU Champion Boxer. He was often quoted as saying “I had 101 fights and won them all but 100”, but in reality he had 101 fights with only 9 losses. He held numerous boxing titles in the state of Oklahoma and boxed for the United States Navy as well.

Gary was employed with Fo-Mac for 29 yrs and Barlow and Hunt for 17 yrs where he was head of research and development. After retirement, he enjoyed many pastimes, including travelling, spending time with his family and friends, growing vegetables, watching sports and golfing with his sons and his dear friend Henry Hipp.

Gary was preceded in death by his wife, Helen (Berry) Ward, mother, Juanita (Baker) Ward, father, Clyde Ward, step-mother, Lucille Ward, brother, Donnie Ward, sister, Colleen Trujillo, and grandson Wallace Gary Ward III.

He is survived by his step-brother, Charles Hill of Sand Springs, OK, two sons, Wallace Gary Ward Jr and wife Shelly of Tulsa, Tracy Clyde Ward of Tulsa; step-son Rick Black and wife Julie of Oologah, OK.; 8 grand children, Kendi Ward, April Adcock, Heather Ward, Eric Ward, Amy Ward, Weston, Bailey and Drake; 2 great grandchildren, Gavin Ward and Adriana Stegman; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held in Oologah, OK. at the Oologah United Methodist Church at 10:00am Monday, October 25, 2010 with Brian Mangan officiating. Interment will follow in Tulsa at Memorial Park Cemetery at 1:00pm October 25, 2010.
