Thomas Rea Mathews

Thomas Rea Mathews passed away on Tuesday, April 12, 2022 in Collinsville, OK at the age of 78.  Tom was born on March 2, 1944 in Fullerton, CA to Arnold and Louise (Malone) Mathews.  After high school, Tom served his country in the Army National Guard.  He married Carol Steffensen on July 14, 1965 and enjoyed 56 years together.  They moved from Barstow, CA to Collinsville in 1971. He made his career as a welder.  After retiring from Builders Supply, he took time to enjoy his hobbies. Tom came from a very musical family.  Not only did he like listening to music but could often be found playing his guitar. A rather unique hobby of his was working with bonsai trees.  He dedicated his time and patience to work with these delicate trees.  Tom even belonged to the Bonsai Society in Tulsa.  Of course, not enough can be said about his love for his family. The time they spent together brought him so much joy. His family and friends will miss him dearly but will find comfort in the memories they made.

Tom is survived by his wife, Carol Mathews of the home; his children, Troy Mathews and wife Taka, and Leah Rainer; his brother Jim Mathews and wife Ruth; 2 grandchildren, Ridge Rainer and wife Kirsty, and Jaden Mathews; and his great granddaughter, Rylee Mae Rainer.  Tom was preceded in death by his parents, Arnold and Louise Mathews.

The family will be holding a Gathering to celebrate Tom’s life on Tuesday, April 19, 2022 at 1:00 pm in the fellowship hall at Meadowcreek  United Methodist Church, 14205 E 146 ^th St N in Collinsville.
