Thomas Eugene Burr of Collinsville, passed away on Saturday, January 14, 2023, at the age of 80.
Visitation for Thomas will be 9:00 am – 8:00 pm, Thursday, January 19, 2023, at Collinsville Dolton Funeral Home. The family will be present from 5:00 to 8:00 pm.
Graveside Services with Military Honors will be held at 10:00 am, Friday, January 20, 2023, at Fort Gibson National Cemetery. The Celebration of Life will follow at 2:00 pm at Foundations Church, 905 N Olive, Broken Arrow, OK 74012.
Thomas was born on October 12, 1942, to Frank Burr, Sr. and the former Lydia Stout in Webbers Falls, Oklahoma. Tommy, as they called him, was the eleventh of thirteen children. After High School, he served his country in the Navy during the Vietnam War Era. Thomas married Mary Terrill on June 1, 1968, and they began their life together in Collinsville. He made his career with the United States Postal Service, retiring as Postmaster in Oologah, OK after serving in multiple other communities. Thomas coached his sons little league baseball teams and enjoyed traveling with his teams and parents to tournaments. He was an avid OU Sooners fan and a proud football season ticket holder. He was active in the American Legion and was honored this Veteran’s Day by the VFW in thanks for his Naval Service. Thomas was a proud member of the Cherokee Nation. He was highly involved with the Victory Cherokee Organization, serving as an officer in various roles over the years. Thomas was well known in the Collinsville community. He and Mary attended Foundations Church. Two causes close to his heart were the Collinsville Education Foundation and Foundations Church mission of the Kenya Church Plant. Thomas will be missed by so many.
Thomas is survived by his loving wife, Mary of the home; his children, daughter Jeanie Michelle and son James William and wife Katie; daughter-in-law, Kelly Poplin Burr; brother, Eddie C. Burr and wife Ginger; 6 grandchildren, Korry Elizabeth and Ainsley Ryan Burr, Brady Thomas and Carter Kennedy Richie, and Emma Rose and Ella Grace Burr; sister-in-law Jeanie Barnes and husband Skip; and numerous nieces, nephews, family and friends. Thomas was preceded in death by his parents, his son Thomas E. Burr II, and 11 siblings.
