Susan “Sue” Diane Carter, a celebrated wife, mother, sister, grandmother, and friend passed from this life to Heaven on December 11, 2023. She is survived by her husband, Tony Carter; her siblings Carol and Curt Bardal, Paul and Wendy Engelman, Nancy LaQua (Engelman) and Jim Payton; her children Brad and Ericka Anderson, Ericka and Jared White, Kris and Lindsay Anderson, Rachel Carter and Zach (Nate) Rea and Megan Carter; her grandchildren, Jolie White, Mason, Blake and Ava Anderson and Diana, Azalhea, and Iluvia Salinas; many beloved uncles, aunts, cousins, nieces and nephews; grand-dogs Millie and Tippy; and lastly her precious companion chihuahua Shorty. She was preceded in death by parents, Virginia and Earl Engelman and Virginias’ brother, Orin Holtan.
Sue was born at her grandparents’ farmhouse on a snowy early spring day, March 19, 1955 in Hayfield, MN to Virginia and Earl Engelman. She graduated from Wayzata High School, class of 1973. Earl and Virginia would take Sue and her siblings on road trips growing up, traveling out east to Pennsylvania and Washington, D.C. and again out west to the Grand Teton National Park and Mount Rushmore. Sue was a vivacious and spirited teenager, which often got her in trouble. Most notably, lighting the backseat of the family car on fire.
Sue was a woman of deep faith and was a devoted congregate of Our Savior Lutheran Church in Tulsa for 32 years, even attending church virtually from home in the last year of her life. She was a dedicated employee at Jeanmarie Creations for 30 plus years. She was a treasured boss and coworker with a strong work ethic, which she instilled in all of her children. She enjoyed exercising regularly at C-Fit classes with her church family, attending wine and book club with her daughter and girlfriends, and loved playing cards with family and friends, especially the game “Sevens”.
Sue was the embodiment of joy and never turned down a good time. She loved music and was an enthusiastic dancer. Sue was an avid concert goer, through the years seeing acts ranging from Rolling Stones to Blake Shelton to Snoop Dogg. Sue had an adventurous spirit and loved to travel. Tony surprised Sue with a trip to the Caribbean for their 5 year wedding anniversary and it was love at first sight for Sue. After that trip, Sue and Tony vacationed to the Caribbean nearly every year thereafter, often bringing friends and family along. Sue’s favorite place on this earth was in a beach chair with her toes in the sand, reading a good book and sipping a spicy bloody Mary. Sue had a wonderful sense of humor and loved to laugh. Her family and friends often laughed together about her goofy missayings, lovingly titled “Sueisms”, a family favorite being “the rock doesn’t fall far from the tree”. Sue’s generous heart was matched only by her extraordinary resilient spirit and she touched countless lives during her time with us. Sue will be forever missed and her memory will continue to live on in us all.
