Susan Annette Butler

December 19, 1955 — August 7, 2022

Susan Annette Butler was born on December 19, 1955 to Robert and Inamell Glance in Tulsa, Ok and stepped through death into life on August 7, 2022.  Susan grew up in and around Tulsa.  She was no stranger to adversity, having lost her mom at a young age, Susan learned early on how to stare straight into the heart of a challenge and fight her way through it.  As a mom, Susan never stopped being a great influence in the lives of her children. Always pressing them to trust Jesus and get the job done, Susan called them to be people of character who could sleep at night with their decisions - and if they couldn’t, then they could call in the morning and  she would do her best to listen.  Susan met James Stanford over 25 years ago. Their initial connection came through softball for their daughters, but in time they found something much deeper. For the last 20 years, Susan and James made every attempt to live life together without abandon. When Susan passed through death into life into the full presence of her savior Jesus, James was holding her hand.

Susan lived a life committed to loving her Lord, loving her family, and loving others the best she could.  She lived out her faith in Jesus Christ by striving to leave people better than she found them.  Her family and friends have characterized her with words like playful, [she] loved exuberantly, silly, beautiful, committed, family first, quick witted, hard working, among other things.  She loved her family and was grateful whenever they could get together for meals, games, concerts, and reunions.  It was a rare occasion to walk into a restaurant where Susan didn’t treat everyone like she had known them for years.  Susan’s limits were self-imposed not set by anyone else. She liked it that way and if you didn’t, the door wasn’t hard to find.

Susan was preceded in death by both her parents, her sister Sandra, several aunts and uncles to whom she was deeply indebted to their kindness and generosity.  She is survived by husband James Stanford of Claremore, daughter Michelle Standridge and husband Chris of Bartlesville, son Mike Butler and wife Debbie of Norman, daughter Karissa Butler and wife Trina of Oologah, bonus daughter Candace Budde and husband Bryson of Foyil, bonus daughter Jennifer  Weaver and husband Jason of Vinita, and bonus son James Stanford Jr. and Sami of Inola, and In-Laws James and Shirley Stanford of Talala; fourteen grandkids and 3 great-grandkids;  brother Robert Wiley Glance of San Diego; brother Wendell Glance and wife Mary of Hannibal, MO; brother Larry Warren Glance and wife Martha of Clinton, OK; Aunt Jean Thomason of Oologah
