Sharon Kay Owens

March 28, 1942 — July 6, 2013

Longtime Oklahoma resident, Sharon Kay (Brown) Owens, passed away July 6, 2013 of long term complications from diabetes.


Sharon Kay was born in Barnsdall, March 28, 1942 to Pete and Maxine Brown. She was raised there until her upper high school years when the family moved to Seminole, Texas. She returned to Oklahoma to marry Carl Owens. They raised a family and made their home in the Collinsville and Vera areas. As her health declined, Sharon Kay moved to Fort Worth Texas to be near her daughter Jamie.


Sharon Kay was a homemaker, bookkeeper, and a generous volunteer. She dedicated herself to community projects such as Sunday school teacher, den mother, youth activities leader, and Senior Citizen activities coordinator. Besides being a good cook, she had a green thumb, canned her homegrown foods, and liked to sew. She had the compassion of a nurse and took the lead in serving both her parents, and her grandmothers, with their end of life care. She then enjoyed nurturing her grandchildren and telling family stories.


Sharon Kay is preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Jim R. Brown; and brother-in-law, Dale Moore. She is survived by siblings : Anna Loy Moore of Chico TX; Eddie (& wife Sherill) Brown of Bartlesville, OK; Robbie Bell of Collinsville, OK; Jana (& husband Tim) Green of Bridgeport, TX; and sister-in-law Carol Brown of Ramona, OK; children: DeAnn (& husband Eric) Burkhardt of LaytonUtah, Jamie Lynn Owens of Fort Worth, TX and Dean Owens of Owasso, OK; 6 beautiful grandchildren: Jenny (& husband Brian) David, Katherine, Amanda, Michael, and Billie; and 1 beautiful great-grandchild; Ava.


A Memorial service will be 10:30 a.m., July 13, 2013 at the First Christian Church of Vera with Rev. Bill Lawrence officiating. Sharon Kay would be most honored if, in lieu of flowers, donations were made to American Diabetes Association; http://www.diabetes.org/ or 1-800-DIABETES. Services are under the direction of Collinsville Dolton Funeral Home.
