Ruth Ione Conkel, 88 of Claremore went from the arms of her daughter Vanessa to the arms of Jesus to be with the Lord on Monday, June 26, 2006. She was born November 8, 1917 in Des Moines, Iowa to Florence Ione King and James Leslie Albaugh.
She was best known around Claremore for her love of the Lord and her ability to listen to other’s problems, once called a "Lovely Listening Post". She also had an awesome sense of humor and could make anyone laugh. Even after she lost her ability to walk & speak, she still communicated through shaking or nodding her head and laughed every day while she was a resident at Claremore Nursing Home. She so enjoyed her girls who would put on her makeup, braid her hair, dress her and adorn her with her jewelry so faithfully everyday.
Survivors are her sons, Robert & wife Kathryn Merkel of Madrid, Iowa, Denis & wife Carolyn Burke of Runnells, Iowa, William & wife Connie Conkel of Bartlett, Tennessee., Irvin and wife Janice Conkel of the Philippines, Donny Conkel of Claremore, 2 daughters, Linda and husband Gene Crabtree of Peel Arkansas and Vanessa and husband Ray Luellen of Claremore, OK, 21 grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren.
The celebration of her homegoing will be @ 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 1st at the Christian Women’s Alliance Ministry Center @ 218 W. 11th St. in Claremore. Reverend Carol Scarth will be officiating.
She was preceded in death by her husband Irvin D. Conkel & her grandson Walter Marshall Crabtree.
