Ruby Darlene Moreland was born on March 29th, 1947 to Esther Shepherd and Jeff Summers in Portland, Oregon. Ruby passed away on March 5th, 2025 in Collinsville, Oklahoma, with her daughter by her side.
She was proceeded in death by her mom Esther Summers, her dad Jeff Summers, her husband Charles Moreland, her daughter Pamela Wald, her son Argie Wald, her granddaughter Kasey, her brother George Barnes, her sister in law Juanita Barnes, her brother Preston Barnes, her sister in law Lucille Barnes, her sister Joanne Robison, her brother in law Bob Robison, her brother Howard Summers, her sister in law Linda Summers, her brother Herald Summers, her brother Donald Summers, and her brother Darrell Summers.
Ruby was survived by her daughter Rebecca, her son in law Thomas, her 16 grandchildren, and more than 20 great grandchildren.
Ruby had 2 sisters and 6 brothers. She started working at the age of 13 at Cottons as a carhop before it turned into a restaurant. As Cottons grew into a restaurant, Ruby worked in several positions, but her favorite was waiting tables. She was always a social butterfly and a hard worker as she often worked graveyard shifts and doubles. She made it her mission to make sure that her customers were satisfied. She got married at age 15 to Junior Wald. Aside from helping raise her brothers, she became a mother to her own children at the age of 16, when she had her first child, Argie. Argie was her baby boy, much longer than 18 years. She had an inseparable bond with Argie and he could do no wrong in her eyes. Pamela, her second born came along 11 months later. She was the easiest going baby but her tough as nails child, who had a heart of gold. Ruby later married Charles Moreland and had Rebecca, her third born child, at 21 years old. Rebecca was the quieter one out of the bunch, but most importantly she was her babygirl and her camping buddy. Ruby continued working at Cottons until it closed down. After her daughter Pamela passed she took on raising her grandson Johnny, and later took on caring for and raising her great granddaughter Jalynn. Aside from her unconditional love and adoration for her family, she loved to go camping, fishing, and garage sailing. She also loved to do puzzles, play bingo, dominos, and pitch. It wasn’t just the act of doing these activities that were enjoyable, it was the precious time that she spent with those that she loved the most that made these hobbies so enjoyable for her. When she wasn’t at the card table surrounded by friends and family, or garage sailing, you could find her at the Corner Café waiting tables and socializing, where she technically didn’t work. When summertime hit she was planning her next fishing and camping trip with family at Lake Eucha. Some of her favorite memories were spent at the lake at the Card table surrounded by family. Family was the most important thing to her, and that can be seen as she instilled that in her daughter who made it her mission to be there with her in her last few moments here on earth.
