Ruby Garrison

Ruby Garrison was born February 24, 1918 in Stigler, Oklahoma to Leard and Maggie Thomason. The Thomason family was a well-known gospel singing family. Ruby married Birl Brazeal December 6, 1933 and had 4 children. They lived in Oologah where all 4 children attended school. On July 2, 1965, Ruby married LeRoy Garrison. Ruby and LeRoy were both members of Zion Hill Free Will Baptist Church and Shelter Free Will Baptist Church. Ruby sang in the choir and with Zion Hill Quartet for more than 4 decades. Ruby was employed for 27 years by Oklahoma Steel Castings where she worked as Chief Inspector. She was active in local government and served for 23 years as trustee on the Oologah town board. Part of that time, she was also vice mayor of Oologah. After retiring, Ruby was elected chairman of the Rogers County Democrats where she served for one term. She also spent several years doing volunteer work with the Claremore Health Center Hospital Auxilary. Ruby is survived by her husband LeRoy; daughters Erma and Walter Hall of Collinsville, Birlene and Don Driskill of Kenai, AK, and Phyllis and John Lullo of Ketchum, OK. She is also survived by 8 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren. Ruby was preceded in death by her parents, son Michael Allen, 3 sisters and 1 brother. Services will be held at the First Baptist Church in Oologah, Tuesday, August 27, 2013 at 2:00 p.m.. Visitation will be Monday August 26, 2013 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Collinsville Dolton Funeral Home in Collinsville.
