Ronald Gene Evans was born May 11, 1937 to Ursell and Dorris Evans at 1630 West Oak Street in Collinsville, OK. He passed away on April 5th at his home in Collinsville at the age of 81.
He is survived by a sister, Linda Jeffs and husband David of Broken Arrow, an uncle Jerry Evans and wife Shirley of Lenexa, KS, an aunt Wanetta Reynolds of Tulsa. Many nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.
Ronald graduated from Collinsville High School in 1955. He attended Northeastern State University with a degree in education. He began his teaching and coaching career in the surrounding area. His great passion was coaching girls basketball. He moved on to California, taught and coached for many years before retiring and returning to Collinsville.
It was after his retirement that he made a great impact on the City of Collinsville and the Collinsville School System. He was president of the Chamber of Commerce. He and Arlene Francis organized the Collinsville Nifty Fifties. He did the Award of Excellence for graduating seniors. He retired as President of the Collinsville Education Foundation and headed up the Golf Tournament as a fundraiser. He was instrumental in starting the NSU Nifty Fifties. President of the NSU Alumni Association and was named NSU Outstanding Alumni of the year.
A visitation will be held at Collinsville Dolton Funeral Home on Thursday, April 11th from 5 – 7. A Memorial Service will be held Friday, April 12 at 10:00 in the Meadowcreek United Methodist Church, 14205 East 146th Street North in Collinsville. Immediately following the service, a lunch will be served at the Veterans Building on Main Street in Collinsville. Hope all can attend and visit.
