Roger William Russell, a distinguished individual who left an indelible mark on those who had the privilege of knowing him, passed away on January 9, 2026, in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Born on October 17, 1950, in Neodesha, Kansas, Roger led a life filled with rich experiences and memories, characterized by his dedication to both his career and his family.

A stalwart of the railroad industry, Roger retired after a commendable tenure with Union Pacific and BNSF. His journey on the rails was marked by versatility, having held numerous esteemed positions, including Master of Trains and Instructor. Over the course of his career, he moved 14 times, showcasing his commitment to his profession and adaptability in the face of change.

Roger was not only an accomplished railroad professional but also a man of many interests. He had a profound love for cooking, often embracing the pleasures of smoking meats on his beloved Traeger grill. His passion extended to gardening, where he found joy in nurturing life and beauty. Additionally, Roger's adventurous spirit led him to explore many places, traveling as much as he could.

Among his proudest accomplishments was his partnership with his grandson, Austin. Together, they founded a lawn care business, aptly named Austin and Grandpa's Lawn Service, which served as a testament to their strong bond and shared work ethic.

Roger's legacy will continue to thrive through his loving family. He is survived by his devoted wife, Donna Russell; daughters Kristie Royer, her husband Roger Royer, Ashley Ewing, her husband Andy Ewing, and daughter Stacie Schardt and her husband Anthony Schardt; as well as grandchildren Melody, Jacob, Kayla, Addyson, Austin, Gracie, and Millie; and great-grandson Maverick.

He is preceded in death by his parents, William Harvey Russell and Violet Helen (Robinson) Russell, as well as his father-in-law Oscar Summers and mother-in-law Dixie Summers.

As we remember Roger William Russell, we celebrate a life dedicated to service, love, and the joys of family. His spirit and the memories he created will forever remain in the hearts of those he touched.

His family will celebrate his life at a later date at one of his favorite places, the beach.
