Roger Dale Cates departed this life on June 29, 2014 in Collinsville, OK. He was born on January 30, 1953 in Henderson, TX. A Memorial Service is being held at The Community Church located on 14th and Oak Street in Collinsville, OK on Saturday, July 12, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. His long suffering has ended and he is now joyfully reunited in Heaven with his Father, Mother, and Sister. His parents were M.A. Cates and Bessie J. (Dykes) Cates.
Roger lived life to its fullest. He worked hard and he played hard. He was a welder by trade. Roger applied his skill and labor for over forty years in as far away places as Scotland and as near as Collinsville, OK. He could be counted on to be at work and ready to go when the whistle blew. Likewise, unless needed otherwise, he could be counted upon to leave when the whistle blew signaling the end of the workday. Roger was an avid fisherman and hunter. He also enjoyed traveling. Together with close friends, Roger traveled North America taking in the vast majority of the States in the Continental United States and Canada. He also traveled portions of Europe and Asia. Roger is best known however for his fun and loving demeanor. He enjoyed people. He cared about people and many people cared about him. If ever he met a stranger they did not stay that way long. He was counted as a friend to many.
Roger was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Cynthia Ann Cates. He is survived by brothers Steve Funk and wife Diane of Plano, TX, Greg Cates of Owasso, OK, Ronald Cates and wife Tammy of Owasso, OK, as well as his sister Angela Breeding and husband Paul of Owasso, OK. Also, he is survived by 5 nephews, 2 nieces, 3 great nephews, and 1 great niece.
Rest in peace dear brother, uncle, and friend.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in Roger’s name to the American Lung Association, American Cancer Society, or any other charitable cause.
