Roderick Stephen Hamil

On Friday August 21st, 2020 Roderick Stephen Hamil, a loving husband & father of five children passed away at the age of seventy-four. He was born on December 22nd, 1945 in Tulsa Oklahoma to Leaterice & Dick Hamil. He retired from Terra Nitrogen in 2011 with 32 years of service as a machinist.

He married Louise Danderson on June 22nd, 1968. Together they raised five children: Luther, Cathy, Debbie, James, and Shawn. Rod and family started to build the house they live in today in 1975, it took seven years to build.
Roderick had many hobbies: he loved flying his Beechcraft Debonair, he had a passion for cars – he custom built a Fiero from the ground up and enjoyed going to cars shows, he enjoyed building thing for his grandkids – he didn’t just build a regular tree house, he built a house in the air with windows, a slide, rock climbing wall, & tire swing. His great grandchildren get to enjoy it to this day.

Rod was a practical joker and enjoyed playing jokes on friends and family. He was a hero to many people. He helped strangers out of burning buildings, helped pulled people out of wrecked cars, and was recognized by the city of tulsa for assisting a police officer who was in trouble.
He was proceeded in death by his grandparents Tom & Louvina Peck, his mother & Father Leaterice & Dick Hamil, as well as his oldest son Luther Hamil.

He is Survived by his wife Louise Hamil, His four children and their spouses: Cathy & Brent Douglass, Debbie Caruthers, James Hamil, Shawn & Syrena Hamil.

His fourteen grandchildren & their spouses: Starla Savage, Luther Savage, Zach Savage, Shane Douglass, Jake Douglass, Timothy Yarnell, Rachael & Chris Bennett, Ashley Hamil, Austin Hamil, Eric Clark, & Emma Phillips. His fourteen great grandchildren and counting, plus numerous aunts, uncles, brother in laws, sister in laws, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Visitation will be Noon to 8:00 pm, Tuesday, August 25, 2020 at the Collinsville Dolton Funeral Home. The family will be present from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm.

Funeral services will be 10:00 am, Wednesday, August 26, 2020 at the First Baptist Church of Oologah with Rev. Greg McElroy officiating. Interment will follow at the Oak Hill Cemetery.
