Robert James Hanigar died Sunday, Jan.21, 2007 after a long illness at the Claremore Veterans Center, Claremore Okla.
Born August 15, 1923 in Rogers, Arkansas, son of James and Bess Hanigar, he served in the U.S. Army during WW ll in the Pacific Theater. After returning from the service, he was employed by the El Paso Herald Newspaper as a reporter. Later, he was employed by Carnation Foods as a sales representative and also served many years as a District Sales Representative for Griffin Foods, Muskogee, Okla. He held a lifetime membership with the American Legion, Post 1, Tulsa, Okla. He served two terms as Post Commander of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 577 of which he was also a lifetime member. He received the award of All American Commander while serving at Post 577.
Survivors include 2 sons, Robert James Hanigar, Jr. of Tuttle, Okla., Steve Sucor of Norman, Okla., a daughter, Sheila Colleen Thomson of Syracuse, N.Y., a sister, Mary Lou Mitchell of Minco, Okla. and a brother, David Hanigar of Edmond, Okla., and three grandsons.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Daisy Kruta of Oklahoma City, Okla.
His funeral will be held at the chapel at the Memorial Park Cemetery, Tulsa, Oklahoma at 2:00 p.m. Friday, January 26, 2007.
