Rita Anne Marlowe Herbel of Collinsville departed this life on Tuesday, August 24 th , 2021 to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Rita was born in Meridian, MS and worked for Southwestern Bell for most of her adult life. She met and married her husband, Don Herbel, in 1968. They lived in Los Angeles CA briefly and then spent many years in the Wichita, KS area before retiring to Collinsville.
Rita was known for her love for the Lord and for people. She led ladies’ Bible studies for many years both in Valley Center, KS and in the Collinsville/ Talala area. She was always joyful and an encouragement to those around her. She made new acquaintances feel as though they were old friends.
She loved her seven grandchildren so much and enjoyed going on trips with them. Her hospitality was legendary. She was never happier than when she was hosting a party or celebrating a holiday such as Thanksgiving or Christmas with family. She also loved gardening and she turned each yard she owned into a beautiful paradise of flowers and landscaping.
She is survived by her husband, Don Herbel, her son Randy, daughter-in-law, Lori, and grandchildren, Kathryn, Benjamin and Bethany of Broken Arrow. She is also survived by her daughter, Cynthia, son-in-law, Jimmy and grandchildren, Emma, Sophia, Ana and Elijah of Fort Worth, TX. She is also survived by her brother, William Marlowe and his wife, Kat of Harrisonburg, VA.
Visitation will be noon to 8:00 pm, Tuesday, August 31, 2021, at the Collinsville Dolton Funeral Home. The family will be present from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm.
Funeral Services will be 10:00 am, Wednesday, September 1, 2021, at the First Baptist Church of Collinsville with Dr. Jim Brewer and Dr. Tim Prock officiating.
Interment will follow at 2:00 pm, Wednesday, September 1, 2021, at the Fort Gibson National Cemetery in Fort Gibson, OK.
Services are under the direction of Collinsville Dolton Funeral Home.
