Richard "Richie" Gordon Herold, Jr.

May 18, 1961 — September 17, 2021

Richie was born May 18, 1961 in East Patchague, Long Island, NY. He made his move to heaven on September 17, 2021 at the age of 60. Richie loved raking and treading for clams in the Great South Bay. His favorite food all his life was seafood. Richie and family moved to Collinsville, OK in 1975 where he started 8th grade and began playing football as a Collinsville Cardinal #72. He had a great passion and love for the game. He played both offense and defense for the Collinsville runners as well as shutting down the opponents' ball carriers. He also threw the shot put in track. He was awarded the highest honor in scouting, becoming an Eagle Scout in August of 1977. His two greatest heroes and influences were his dad, Richard “Red” Herold Sr., and his coach, Ron “Coach Mac” McHenry. Rich visited Coach Mac in the hospital years ago and pinned his USMC Captain bars on him—it was a very moving moment for all who were there. After graduating from high school in 1979, Richie was awarded an educational scholarship to ORU (Oral Roberts University) in Tulsa. He gained a BS in Business Marketing and was a letterman on the vanity track team. Richie would later receive his MBA from University of Phoenix. After college, Richie had a strong desire to serve his country in the USMC. He went through OCS (Officers Candidate School) and became a 2nd lieutenant. He served in his beloved Corp from 1985-1992 making the rank of Captain as an Aviation Logistics Officer. He kept in touch with many Marine Corps brothers throughout his life. The connection was powerful, the respect beyond measure, and never-ending love. Richie made his move into sales after being honorably discharged from the Marine Corp. He worked for Veritas Software 1999-2004 as a Sr. Account Representative, Gluecode Software, IBM Corporation 2005-2016 as a Business Unit Executive, then Tomitribe Corporation 2016-2019 as Director of Enterprise Sales. Richie raised two boys, Everet and Joel Herold. They were his world and he bragged about them constantly! He shared his love of guns with Everet and his love of sports with Joel. They went on many camping trips to the desert in California and many sporting events. Rich had a contagious personality and smile. EVERYONE loved Rich and it’s been evident with the outpouring of love and support the family has experienced. Rich was well known for his USMC birthday parties on or around November 10th. He would do most of the cooking himself as he was considered a Rock Star in the kitchen. Many would travel from near and far to be in attendance. Richie is survived by his two sons, Everet Herold and Verla Bloomfield of Tulsa, OK and Joel Herold and his wife Mari Caparas of San Diego, CA, a granddaughter Lexi Herold; a sister Evie Herold-Keeling and her husband Stacey “Cowboy” Keeling of Jennings, OK; a niece Corinna and Jeff Hollie of Denver, CO; a nephew, Logan Keeling of Tulsa, OK. He was preceded in death by his father Richard “Red” Herold and mother Lois Caroline Smith-Herold; paternal grandparents, Frederick Albert Herold and Emily McKie Herold; maternal grandparents Norris Vernon Smith and Ruth Alvord Smith. Memorial services will be 2:00 pm, Saturday, October 9, 2021 at the A Glorious Church with Lana Osburn and Hugh Smith officiating. Services are under the direction of Collinsville Dolton Funeral Home.
