Michael L. Perkins

August 6, 1940 — August 9, 2021

Michael L Perkins, 81 passed Monday August 9, 2021. He was born in Liberal Kansas to Ralph and Eileen Perkins. Mike was preceded in death by his parents, sister Donna Lee, brother Norman, and brother and best friend Doug.

Mike grew up in Plains, Kansas. He joined the Marines out of high school where he was an Air Control Tower operator and after college,  attended Law school at the University of Oklahoma. He spent much of his professional career as an attorney in Okeene, Oklahoma. While in Okeene, he enjoyed the people, the local community playhouse, where he thought he was especially funny, and MCing events such as the rattlesnake hunts and football banquets.

Life later shifted him to the Collinsville, Oklahoma area. He worked at his son-in-law's veterinary clinic; riding around on farm calls, interacting and entertaining clients with his dry humor, taxiing his grandkids from place to place, visiting his other grandchildren and generally doing whatever he wanted.

Mike was an avid traveler, visiting Greece, Poland, and living briefly in Beijing China.

He was as comfortable with the bum on the street as he would have been with the president of the United States. Mike often believed he was the smartest man in the room but not better than anyone either.

He described himself as gentle, easy going, somewhat introverted, who enjoyed his family and reading from his large collection of books. He attributed his ability to stop drinking to his children and God and his ability to stay sober to God and Alcoholics Anonymous.

Mike is survived by his children, Debbie, (Mike) of Collinsville, Doug of Enid, and Derek, (Valentina) of Colorado, his former wife and mother of his children, Sharon and his 6 grandchildren.

Mike was very proud of his service with the Marines and always exceptionally proud and interested in the lives of his children and grandchildren.

He also, had several wonderful friends who stuck with him to the bitter end.

He will be greatly missed.

Memorial services will be 11:00 am, Saturday, August 28, 2021 at the Collinsville First Baptist Church with Dr. Tim Prock officiating.
