Mary Virginia Vanpelt

Mary Virginia VanPelt passed away at her home on the V2 ranch with her family at her side on June 30, 2010. She was born on February 17, 1918 in Windsor Mo. to Floyd and Helen Blanche (Wood) Hand. She and her family moved to Oklahoma when she was a small child and eventually settled in the Skiatook/Ramona area as farmers. Mary was the 6th of 7 children. After a year at Oklahoma A&M, on August 1, 1937 she married H. B VanPelt Jr. in her parents home in Sperry Ok. During this marriage of 52 years they had two children HB VanPelt III & Constance Gail VanPelt.

She worked and assisted on raising her family, running the ranch and dairy business and eventually went to work for Phillips Petroleum as an executive secretary for 20 years before retiring. She and Her husband loved to travel to Mexico & the southwest. She was an inspiring & accomplished artist with great talent and taste. She also was a woman of grace, kindness and devotion to her family under all circumstances mankind has lost a true treasure. She was proceeded in death by both parents, husband HB VanPelt Jr., her son HB Vanpelt III, grandchild Dan VanPelt, siblings Harold Hand, Lawrence & wife Hazel Hand, Ross & wife Dixie Hand, Juanita Hand, Clyde & wife Opal Hand, and her niece Jackie (Hand) Brown.

She is survived by her daughter Constance Schmidt, her sister, Lillie & husband Don Riley; four grandchildren; Chrystal Brassfield, Clay & wife Sherri Holly, Victoria & husband Todd Jerome, John & Sherri VanPelt, Great grandchildren, Chazz, Sierra, Kaelin, Trevor, & Layce Holly, Marshall Perkins & girlfriend Jessica Anderson, Chase Perkins, Holly Nicole Perkins & Justin Clara; Great great grandchildren Emily VanPelt, Ty Hunter Holly, Bailey & Kross Garrett Perkins,; Niece and Nephews, Smokey & Billie Hand, Dixie & Jerald Freeman, Charlene Hand Erwin, Debbie, Judy & Roger Keller, Tom Riley, Kay Rackstraw, Johnnie Gwen Kennedy, Mark & Onita Johnson, Sydney & Banks Hudson; brother-in-law Garland Johnson and daughter-in-law Darlene VanPelt.

Visitation is scheduled for Monday, July 5, 2010, 9:00 am to 8:00 pm at the Oologah Dolton Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held July 6th 2010 at 1:30 p.m.at the Talala Christian Church.
