Celebrating the Life of Mary Lou Briggs
Mary Lou Briggs passed away on September 15, 2025, at the remarkable age of 94, leaving behind a legacy of love and laughter.
She was born in Chelsea, Oklahoma on September 30, 1930. She met Bobby Gean Briggs when he came into the diner where she was waitressing. They soon married on the 9th of June in 1956. His birthday was on the 10th of June and he said she was his early birthday present. They raised three children together, sending them all to school in Collinsville where Mary Lou loved going to their sporting events.
Mary was a beloved mother, grandmother, and sister. She loved spending hours embroidering, making sweets for the holidays, going to her grandchildren’s many activities and, to the joy of some family members and the chagrin of others, the Oklahoma Sooners.
She is survived by her children, Ed Dortch (Ellen Dortch d. 2025) of Owasso, OK, Bonnie Johnston (George Patrick Johnston) of Collinsville, OK and Doyle Briggs (Mishael Briggs) of Collinsville, OK, her grandchildren, MaryBeth Lane, Chelsea Enright, Edwin Dortch, Justin Thompson, Bryan Hutchinson and Jessi Briggs, her great-grandchildren, Lauren Wicks, Katie Lane, Matthew Lane, Keanu Madderra, Jayne Dortch, Rico Madderra, Elizabeth Vernon, Cody Dortch, Kyle Dortch, ZeeAnna Embry, Isabella Embry, McKenna Enright-Hobbs, Presley Enright and Charlie Thompson, and her great-great-grandchildren, Sam Wicks, James Wicks and Milan Dortch, as well as her brother Kenneth Grigg and sister Linda Sorrells.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Bobby, parents James Edmond and Sallie Dawes Grigg, sisters Eulalia Grigg, Vera Shoulders, June Carver and Edna Grigg, and brothers Lyle Grigg, James Grigg and Edward Grigg.
In honor of Mary Lou, take a moment to hug your loved ones and tell them you love them—just as she would have wanted.
