Marvin Leroy Lawson

Marvin Leroy Lawson passed away at his home in Eucha at the age of 81. Marvin was born on August 7, 1937 in Jay, Oklahoma to Guy Branson Lawson and the former Ruth Elizabeth Wright. He attended Jay Public Schools and graduated with the Class of 1955.

Visitation for Marvin will be held on Tuesday, November 20, 2018 at Worley Luginbuel Funeral Home in Jay from 2:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. with the family receiving guests at the funeral home from 5:00-7:00.

Graveside Services will be held 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, November 21, 2018 at Yellow Tree Cemetery with Chaplain Dave Tallé and Pastor Furan Jackson officiating. Services are under the direction of Collinsville Dolton Funeral Home, Collinsville, OK.

Marvin was a jack of all trades and has a storied work career. After high school, Marvin worked for Foxx Hardware and then delivered chickens for Wingard. He worked for Goin’s Lumber in Spavinaw and moved with the business to Jay where he became General Manager and Architect. Marvin built his first store in 1976, Lawson’s Convenience Store/Mustang Gas. After selling the business he built the grocery store, A & M Foods, where Homeland is today. Horner Foods purchased the store, and Marvin continued working there as the butcher. He then worked for Bill Williams building houses around Grand Lake for a short time. He became the manager of Kelly’s IGA before he quit to pursue his next business venture. In 1986, Marvin built the store he is most known for, Starvin’ Marvin’s, which became a staple for many in the community and held a lot of memories for people. He sold the business in 1996 and attempted to retire, but it didn’t stick. Marvin’s Trading Post was built in 1998 and Marvin worked there until his retirement in 2013.

Marvin was a big supporter of Jay sports. He coached many little league and softball teams over the years. He enjoyed watching OU sports, March Madness, the College World Series, and the Little League World Series. Marvin was an avid fisherman and would often spend all day on the lake. He also enjoyed hunting and being outdoors. He was known for his big garden and often had produce to share. He was a very generous man and was known for supporting the community. Marvin often donated to different organizations, benefits, and individuals over the years, and was always open to helping someone who was down on their luck. He was a great man and will be missed by many.

Marvin was preceded in death by his parents, his daughter, Jerri Ann Lawson-Williams, and his brothers, Merle Lawson and Roy Lawson. Marvin is survived by his wife Aglae Lawson of the home; his children, Marty Lawson of Langley, Mike Lawson of Spavinaw, Casey Allen and husband Wally of Columbia, SC, and Christy Harris and husband Matt of Collinsville, OK; his siblings, Robert Lawson and wife Sue, and Betty Lawson; 8 grandchildren, Mandi Williams, Shane Williams, Katie Lawson, John Lawson, Lucas Allen, Eliza Harris, Gabe Harris, and Harper Allen; 3 great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.
