Margaret "Peggy" Ann Shank

October 14, 1927 — February 9, 2011

Margaret (Peggy) Ann Shank passed away peacefully on February 9, 2011.

Margaret was born on October 14, 1927 to Christian and Margaret Vanderburg, in Faribault, Minnesota. She had 4 brothers and 4 sisters. She grew up near Rochester, Minnesota, where she met the love of her life, Carl Shank. They were married on May 21, 1949.

They were partners on a dairy along with Carl’s brother, Ralph Shank, in St. Charles, Minnesota. Carl thought that somewhere further south had to have a warmer climate and be a better life for him and his new wife.
They settled in on a 180 acre farm west of Oologah, Oklahoma in 1952, where they raised 3 children; Denise, Chuckie and Diane. They operated the dairy, which was a very popular spot for the neighbors who wanted fresh delicious farm milk. The dairy continued operation until 1986 when Carl retired from the dairy business and started raising beef cattle and he always had a large garden every year.

Carl passed away from Prostate Cancer on September 19, 1994. Margaret missed her husband every day until her passing on to the Lord. Margaret was a fantastic mother and grandmother who loved her children and her grandchildren and 1 great-granddaughter. She was always the favorite sister and aunt of the family. She will be greatly missed by her family and good friends.

Peggy, as most everyone knew her by, loved everyone and never disliked anyone or said a single bad word about anyone. She always saw the good in everyone she met. To know her was to love her. She was a very special person who lived a very Christian life every day. She was most known for her special way to make homemade chocolate chip cookies for her grandchildren.

Peggy enjoyed babysitting her grandchildren, going to the casino, working crossword puzzles and always doing them so well, country music and John Wayne. She enjoyed spending the summer at Grand Lake and being around friends and family.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl Shank, her parents, Christian and Margaret Vanderburg, sister Florence Renaux (Rochester, MN), sister Ruth Smith (Rochester, MN), brother Gordon Vanderburg (Suffolk, VA).

Survivors include her children; Denise Montroy and husband W.C. Montroy, Talala, Carl Shank Jr, Talala and Diane McPeters, Langley, OK. Her grandchildren; Dr. Jason Montroy and wife Kristin, Owasso, Derek Doerr, Tulsa, Danelle Doerr, Jenks, Emory McPeters, Langley, and 1 great-granddaughter, Kali Montroy, Owasso. A special nephew, who called her Me-Ma Shank, Canton Daniel. Brothers Bill Vanderburg (Rochester, MN), Robert Vanderburg (Stewartville, MN), Chuck Vanderburg, (Kasson, MN). Sisters; Katheryn Makepeace (Rochester,MN), Helen Fitzpatrick (Oronoco, MN). A lot of special nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held February 16, 2011 at the A Healing Touch Ministry, 1:00pm, west of Oologah. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery near Oologah. Services handled by Collinsville Dolton Funeral Home.
