Mae Lorene “Kitty” Thomas

Kitty Thomas was born in Claremore, Oklahoma, July 13, 1932, to Elwood Wilson Tanner and Inez Mae (Hankins) Tanner. She lived most of her life there, graduating in 1950.  After graduation, she moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma, and went to work for Bell Telephone Company.  She later worked in many medical offices as manager and insurance clerk.

In October of 1954 her roommate had a date with a handsome young man named Bill Thomas.  Bill left the date, went home and told his mother that he really would like to go out with Kitty.  They did go out, fell in love and married two weeks later—that marriage lasted until his death 63 years later.

Three children were born to Kitty and Bill;  Pamela, Billy and Jennifer.  These children became Kitty’s entire purpose for living.  Although she was a working mom, dinner was at the dining room table each night.  She found time to make clothes for herself and the children.  She was an excellent seamstress, making the wedding dress both Pamela and Jennifer wore along with her granddaughter’s dress.  Sadly, their son, Billy, perished in an automobile accident in 1977 and some of the light left her eyes and her heart was broken.

In 1978 her first grandchild was born giving her the sparkle once again.  Kitty adored her grandchildren—Alex Webb, Ashley Webb Powell, Kelsi Miller Fulton, and Ethan Miller.  Time spent with her grandchildren was her happy place.  The grandchildren were all fortunate to live within miles of Kitty and she delighted in babysitting them, teaching life lessons, taking them on trips and creating unforgetable memories.  She was close to each one of them and they returned the adoration.

Kitty also taught her children and grandchildren about God and her faith.  Church was a second home to Kitty.  Growing up, her children never missed a service, revivals included, unless they were throwing up blood and had bones sticking out of their skin.  She was more than committed to her Savior – He was her guiding light, her hope and her comfort.  She believed each and every word of the Bible and taught her children to feel the same.

Kitty was active in the Assembly of God and Faith Fellowship, teaching Sunday School, VBS, Women’s Groups—anything she could do to worship with her life.

After her children were grown, Kitty was active in the Home Representative Club, PEO and helped Bill with the Nifty 50’s –even tho she was a Claremore Zebra at heart.

Kitty’s love for her family and friends was second only to her love for God.

Kitty was preceeded in death by her parents, brother Wilson Tanner & wife Dora Ann Tanner, her son, William Terrill Thomas II (Billy), brother in law, Robert Thomas, sister in law Edna Husband and husband Dean, and many cousins, aunts and uncles.

Kitty’s greatest loss was her husband, William Terrill, Bill, Thomas.

She is survived by daughters, Pamela Webb (Gy),  Jennifer Miller (Marvin Lee), grandchildren, Alex Webb (Erin), Ashley Powell (Ryan, ) Kelsi Fulton (Bryce) and Ethan Miller (Rachel), great grandchildren, Hank, Mack & Ross Powell, Jacquline & Mikayla Webb, Westlynn, Oaklynn & BradiJo Fulton, and Leo Miller.

Visitation will be 1:30 pm to 6:00 pm, Sunday September 14, 2025, at the Collinsville Dolton Funeral Home. The family will be present from 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm.

Funeral Services will be 2:00 pm, Monday, September 15, 2025, at the Collinsville First Baptist Church with Dr. Tim Prock officiating. Interment will follow at the Ridgelawn Cemetery in Collinsville.
