Loyd Glen Hunter

July 6, 1931 — July 6, 2020

Fire Chief Loyd Glenn Hunter passed away on Monday, July 6 th , 2020 on his 89 th birthday. He leaves behind his wife Venita Crick Hunter of Blanchard, Oklahoma, 4 sons Eddie, Ken, Rod, & Mark, 2 daughters Linda & Rhonda, numerous grandchildren & great grandchildren, sister Willie Whitaker of Moore, Oklahoma, and numerous nieces & nephews. He will be laid to rest in Collinsville, Oklahoma next to his deceased wife, Christine Moore Hunter, who passed in 2009.

Loyd started his career at the young age of 15 when he joined the Army. Once they realized he was too young to have joined, he was quietly shown the door. Once he was old enough, he joined the Marine Corps & is a veteran of the Korean war. He then joined the Air Force, staying until he retired as Chief Master Sgt. He was located at the Oklahoma Air National Guard Base in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Chief Hunter, aka “Smokey”, worked with many Municipal, City and Airport Fire Departments across the country. He was a certified trainer and conducted Fire/Crash training across North America. Being a man who was unable to be idle, he then went to work at McDonald Douglas as their Fire Chief & worked until he retired from there.

This was a man whose life was the epitome of service to others. He was a member of the Collinsville Masonic Lodge, the Shriners of North America, the National Fire Chief’s Association, and served many ways through his church. His love for others & selfless service to our country and his family are a debt we could never repay, not that he would ever expect us to. His cool, collected, servant hearted character was on example for us all. This world was a better place with him in it. Now he has gone on to Heaven to serve our Lord in whatever manner the good Father calls him to do.

Viewing is available on Thursday July 9 th from noon to 8:00 pm. The family viewing is from 4:00 to 8:00 pm. The funeral will be held at Garnett Road Baptist Church in Tulsa, Oklahoma at 10:00 am on Friday July 10 th .
