Judith “Judy” Ann Johnson, aged 63, of Collinsville, Oklahoma, passed away Tuesday, April 14th, 2009 at St. John’s Hospital in Tulsa from complications following a stroke.
Judy was born on January 7th, 1946 to Lloyd “Buck” Johnson and Edith Ridgel Johnson in Tulsa. She grew up in Collinsville and was active as a child in Rainbow Girls, Camp Fire Girls and attended Girls State before graduating from Collinsville High School in 1964. She attended Oklahoma State University and earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Education with a double major of English and Math in 1968. It was while in Stillwater she met Ronald Johnson, whom she married on August 7th, 1966. She soon started her career as a teacher in both Texas and Oklahoma while raising her three children.
After moving from Texas to Collinsville following her divorce, she began work at Collinsville Public Schools and in 1980 earned her Master’s Degree in Counseling from the University of Tulsa. She taught math and English before becoming counselor at Wilson Elementary School of Collinsville until she retired in 2002.
During her career, Judy received the Chamber of Commerce Award for Education, served as Angel Tree Coordinator, and Band Boosters Treasurer. A lifelong United Methodist, she served the Collinsville United Methodist Church as chairperson of several committees, delegate to Annual Conference and worked as a counselor at Camp Egan during the summer. Besides her faith and family, she had two passions in life: books and OSU Football. She passed on her love of learning to her children and to all who came into her life.
Judy was preceded in death by her father in 1981 and is survived by: her mother, Edith Johnson Mitchell; her three children, daughter Carlyn Heinrichs and her husband Dale of Owasso, Oklahoma, son Darren Johnson and his wife Cindy of Checotah, Oklahoma, and daughter Dianne Marquez and her husband Reyes of Lovington, New Mexico; her six grandchildren, Madalyn, Seth and Mason Heinrichs, Andrew Johnson, and Ryan and Sabrina Marquez; her sister, Janice Pollard and her husband Ken of Collinsville; and her two nephews, Brady Pollard and his wife Angel of Olathe, Kansas and their children, Caleb and Gentry, and Courtney Pollard and his wife Laura of Collinsville and their daughter Adeline.
There will be a visitation at Collinsville Dolton Funeral Home on Friday, April 17th from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m. in order to greet the family.
A funeral service will be held at Meadowcreek United Methodist Church of Collinsville on Saturday, April 18th at 11:00 a.m. The Reverend Michelle Coulter of Trinity United Methodist Church will officiate. Pallbearers will include Brady Pollard, Courtney Pollard, Dale Heinrichs, Reyes Marquez, Dean Eyler and Monty Eyler. She will be interred at Ridgelawn Cemetery in Collinsville and a reception will follow at the Early Childhood Center in Collinsville.
