Jr Sligar

Phillip Daniel Ray “JR” Sligar, Jr. of Claremore, passed away on Tuesday, June 11, 2019 in Owasso, OK.  He was 89.  JR was born on June 5, 1930 at 6 pm in Collinsville, OK to Phillip I. and Odessa F. (Catlett) Sligar.  JR’s family moved around the country as his father followed work during the war.  They eventually ended up in Collinsville where JR attended school.  He worked for McDonell Douglas until layoffs occurred in the company.  He later became the owner and operator of S&S Siding until his retirement.

JR spent most of his time making a living for his family, sometimes working seven days a week.  He was a skilled woodworker and a cabinetmaker.  JR would build new houses and fix up old houses to flip.  He worked for a company refurbishing HUD homes and helped many people in doing so.  JR also enjoyed working on cars and was a good mechanic.  He always wanted to have and to work cattle, but never had the time needed to do so. Aside from working, JR enjoyed fishing and an occasional round of golf.

JR is survived by his children, Bobby Ray Sligar and wife Debbie of Claremore, Kathy S. Walsh and husband Robert of Claremore, Danny Ray Sligar of Oologah, Karrey Lockney and husband Blake of Berryhill, Duwayne C. Sligar and wife Carol of Claremore, and Marsha Sligar; 2 sisters, Betty Jean Sligar and Thelma Hicks; 2 brothers, G.H. Sligar and Bobby Jo Sligar and his wife Debbie; and a host of extended family and friends.  JR was preceded in death by his parents, his son Tommy Sligar, and sisters Ada Paul and Zadie Nutt.

Visitation for JR will be Thursday, June 20, 2019 from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Collinsville Dolton Funeral Home.

Funeral Services will be at 10:00 a.m., Friday, June 21, 2019 at Oologah Assembly of God with Pastor Kent Jenson officiating.  Interment will follow at Ridgelawn Cemetery in Collinsville.  Services are entrusted to Collinsville Dolton Funeral Home.
