Joyce Louise Schaffner, 63, longtime Collinsville resident, passed away Monday, August 10, 2009, at her home near Big Cabin, OK. She was born on December 23, 1945, in Edinburg, TX, to Leo Howell and Bettye (Edmiston) Howell-Carlile.
On February 12, 1966, Joyce was united in marriage to Dale Deville Schaffner, Jr. and they made their home in Collinsville. To this union four children were born.
Joyce worked over the years as an EMT for the City of Collinsville, the Collinsville Hospital, taught CPR at the Collinsville High School, and the last few years, with her husband, as gate attendants for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She loved quilting, sewing, crafts, crocheting, knitting and cooking. She also loved learning about her Indian heritage, the great outdoors, traveling, camping, fishing and spending time with family and friends. Joyce was a woman who was loved by many and will be greatly missed.
She is survived by her husband Dale, of the home. Her mother: Bettye Carlile of Tulsa, OK. 2 sons: Dale “Rowdy” Deville Schaffner, III and his wife Shelley of Collinsville, OK and Bryan Keith Schaffner and his wife Michelle of Owasso, OK. 2 daughters: Mary Kathleen Schaffner of Owasso, OK and Shelly Lynn Schaffner of Big Cabin, OK. 1 sister: Carol McIntire of Tulsa, OK. She is also survived by 10 grandchildren: Kathy, Zachary, Amber, Bryant, Meyada, Whitney, Heather, Samuel, Daniel and Nathan.
Joyce was preceded in death by: her father: Leo Howell, step-father: Floyd Carlile, sister: Kathy Smallwood, brother: Donnie Howell and nephew: Donnie Howell, Jr.
Visitation was held Thursday, August 13, 2009, from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Collinsville Dolton Funeral Home.
A memorial service was held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, August 14, 2009, at the Baptist Tabernacle Church of Collinsville with Rev. Gary Cate officiating.
