Alice Joyce (Stevens) Bennett

Joyce Bennett, our “Oma,” passed peacefully on Saturday, September 20, 2014 in Houston, Texas. Born on September 15, 1925, she is preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, Jack Arthur Bennett, daughter and son-in-law Barbee and Al Abrams, and daughter Beverly Dye. Joyce is survived by son-in-law Robert Dye, and her three grandsons and families: Benjamin and Rochelle Abrams; Todd and Amy Abrams, son Jack Arthur; and Erik and Jamie Abrams, sons Hudson and Henry.

Joyce, a longtime member of Houston’s Chapelwood UMC, was loved by all who were blessed to know her throughout her long and full life, and was recognized until the end by her genteel sweetness. Devoted to family, she selflessly cared for and helped raise her grandchildren when they were orphaned; providing lessons of love and compassion for which her family are eternally grateful. She enjoyed hosting dinner parties, playing bridge with friends, and doting on her Yorkies.

A graveside service and interment will take place on October 20, 9am at Ridgelawn Cemetery in Collinsville, Oklahoma. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Joyce Bennett’s name to Houston Hospice, 1905 Holcombe Blvd., Houston, TX 77030.
