He was born in Tulsa and lived most of his life in Collinsville attending school there. At one time he said he knew everyone in that small town and most knew him. After high school he worked for Webbcraft Boat Company when they first started building boats. He later worked for a custom steel manufacturing company in Tulsa. While working there he attended Tulsa Junior College and The University of Tulsa. In 1984 he moved to Ketchum, OK on Grand Lake and worked there for Grand Lake Boat Sales. He was back in the boat business again, selling, instead of building Webbcraft Boats. Something he was very familiar with. He loved the lake life both in the summer time as well as the winter. He and Shirley used to fish almost every day off the dock that first few summers, which they kept well baited for crappie. John said that they could fillet a minnow. But they had a margarita machine on the dock so if the fish weren’t biting, they were probably enjoying margaritas. He became ill with cancer in 1990. He was pretty sick for a few years but pulled through even when doctors only gave him six months to live. After his recovery, he open a steak house in 1994 and named it The Lighthouse, knowing nothing about running a restaurant other than how to mix a drink. But he ran it successfully for almost 15 years until illness struck again and he had to sell out. During his time in Ketchum, he served as Mayor of the town for a while and was active in starting the Ketchum Senior Center, along with his good friend, Betty Christie, more commonly known as “Miss Betty”. They attended quite a few meetings and asked for grants and were able to open the Center, which is still running today.

While serving as Mayor, a new Volunteer Fire Station was built which bears a plaque with his name on it. He then returned to Collinsville where he had grown up and making that his home once again. After recovering from illness once again, he worked for Kent’s Custom Cars for a few years until his health forced him to slow down once again. That was right up his alley, for he always had a love for cars. He said he enjoyed working with Kent and his sister Kristen. He learned quite a bit about the car business from them. After taking a rest and recuperating for several months, he then started helping out Pam Webb, working part time with her in her catering business, Three Sisters Kitchen To Go. That, too, was a favorite of his. He loved to Cook for and share food with others. John had quite a few close calls with death before it finally caught up with him. It seems that his old body was finally wearing out and the Lord was ready to take him home.

He started attending Zion Hill Church and became a member of the Zion Hill Church Family. He felt that he fit right in there and enjoyed attending Church functions. He accepted Jesus Christ as his Savior and asked for forgiveness of his sins.
Visitation will be noon to 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, January 20, 2015 at the Collinsville Dolton Funeral Home.

Funeral Services will be 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, January 21, 2015 at the Zion Hill Church on Oologah, OK with Rev. Joshua Hall officiating. Interment will follow at the Ridgelawn Cemetery in Collinsville. Services are under the direction of Collinsville Dolton Funeral Home.
