James "Jim" Ray Colpitt

April 15, 1945 — September 24, 2015

James “Jim” Ray Colpitt was born in Nowata, Oklahoma on April 15, 1945 to James Richard and Lela
Mildred (Denny) Colpitt. He died September 24, 2015 in Tulsa, Oklahoma at the age of 70 years.

Jim was reared and educated in Collinsville, Oklahoma and completed his Bachelor of Science in Agriculture and Agriculture Engineering from Oklahoma State University in 1969. Upon graduation, he joined the United States Air Force as a veterinarian tech. He married Barbara Goodwin in Bison, Oklahoma on July 5, 1969. They made their home at F.E. Warren Air Force Base in Cheyenne, Wyoming until Jim was honorably discharged on July 17, 1973 as a Staff Sergeant. They moved back to Collinsville after his discharge.

Jim’s career was farming and ranching and he won many awards at the Tulsa State Fair. During high school, he played football and received the following awards while raising black angus: FFA Chapter Farmer, FFA State Farmer, FFA Northeast District Farmer, FFA American Farmer.

While at OSU, Jim found an interest in flying. He earned his private pilot’s license and achieved multiple ratings in aviation. He served as President of the Flying Aggies for two years. His most notable flight was to the Arctic Circle.

After moving back to Collinsville, Jim was honored with the Outstanding Young Man of America Award. He became a leader in the community, volunteering with 4-H and FFA. He was a member of the Lions’ Club, the Tri-County Fair Board and FFA Alumni, where he served as president, and was a lifetime member of FFA. Jim was also a life time member of the Collinsville Community Church, serving on the church board numerous times.

Jim had many interests – traveling, hunting, fishing, dancing, animals, history, and even gardening after spending long days out in the field. Jim loved his OSU Cowboys!!! He lived and breathed every sport and wore an OSU t-shirt every day!!
Jim was kind hearted and generous and helped so many people and they didn’t even know it was him.

Jim is survived by his loving wife, Barbara,
Two sisters, Carolyn (husband Charles) Stewart and Kay Limric
One Aunt, Maurine Parks,
Several great-grandchildren, many more family and friends.
He is also survived by his proudest accomplishments, his two children,
Don (wife Janelle and kids Megan and Adam) Colpitt and
Laura (husband Henry and kids Caden, Cassie, Michael, DeeDee and Trace) Maul.

Jim was pre-deceased by his parents.

Visitation for Jim will be held Friday, September 25, 2015, from 5:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m., Saturday, September 26, 2015 from 9:00 a.m. - 8:00 p.m., and Sunday, September 27, 2015 from 1:30 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. at Collinsville Dolton Funeral Home.

The Funeral Service for Jim will take place at 10:00 a.m., Monday, September, 28, 2015 at Community Church with Pastor Dan Grimes officiating. Interment will follow at Ridgelawn Cemetery in Collinsville. Services are under the direction of Collinsville Dolton Funeral Home, (918) 371-2111, www.collinsvillefh.com.
