Services for Hazel Charlene Wheeler will be 10 AM, Friday, July 24, 2026 at First Church, 10100 N. Garnett Road, Owasso, OK. Hazel passed into eternal life with Jesus on July 19, 2026, at the age of 86. Hazel was born September 12, 1939 near Ames, Oklahoma to Murvin and Velma (Fyffe) Reynolds.

Hazel grew up on a farm north of Ames and her early years were spent with chores and school, learning the value of hard work and responsibility. As she grew Hazel was often called upon to babysit for neighbors. She was a 1957 graduate of Ames High School and was a guard for the Lady Wildcats basketball team.

Hazel married Glenn Leroy Wheeler on February 22, 1958. Hazel and Leroy made their home in Tulsa where Leroy worked as a mechanic for American Airlines. There they would have two sons, Charles Leroy in 1960, and David Allen in 1963.

The family would settle in east Tulsa where Hazel and Leroy were charter members of Rolling Hills (now Catoosa Hills) Christian Church. Filled with a strong faith and a love for Jesus, Hazel would serve in many roles in that growing church including teaching children’s Sunday School and singing in the choir. In 1973, the family moved to Oologah. Hazel and Leroy would continue living out their faith at Central Christian Church in Claremore, and finally at First Christian Church of Owasso where they were both active in the Missions and Sr. Adult ministry teams. Hazel also sang in the choir for many years.

As her sons grew Hazel found time to work outside the home. She worked as town clerk for the City of Oologah for a time. In 1978 Hazel began working as a teacher’s aid for Oologah-Talala Public School, a career that would last for 20 years.

Upon their retirement, Hazel and Leroy greatly enjoyed getting out in their RV. They were active members of the Newmar Kountry Klub, traveling throughout the US with old and new friends for many years.

Hazel was preceded in death in 2022 by her husband Leroy, along with her parents and her brothers and sisters-in-law. She is survived by her son Charles (Chuck) Wheeler and wife Debi of Claremore. Son David Wheeler and wife Cathy of Oologah. Four grandchildren; granddaughters Kendra Schulte and husband Jake of Edmond, OK. Amy Wheeler of Claremore. Kelsey Schultz and husband Nathan of Joplin, MO. And, grandson Nathaniel Wheeler of Oologah. Three great granddaughters; Evangeline, Lillian, and Julia Schulte of Edmond. Hazel is also survived by her sister Bonnie Hand of Harrah, OK and a host of nieces, nephews, and dear friends who she loved very much.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to First Christian Church (First Church) of Owasso or to Cookson Hills Christian School in Kansas, OK.
