Harriet Ann Morrow (Durfey)

March 29, 1936 — June 13, 2024

Harriet Ann Morrow (Durfey) passed away peacefully at home on June 13, 2024, at the age of 88 in Mineral Wells, TX. She was born on March 29, 1936 in Plainwell, MI.  She had been a long time Lawton resident and then Owasso and Collinsville resident since 2001.  Harriet was a devoted woman who found joy and purpose in serving God through her amazing gift of music. Later in life, she married Ret. Pastor Derrell Morrow, her beloved, and together they made a wonderful home in Collinsville, OK.

Harriet was blessed with her 7 children RAINE & Jimmy Igarta, JOHNNY & Kelley Thornton, CRAIG Thornton, JEANINE & Rob Coffman, JUSTINA Thornton & Mike Koepp, THAD Thornton, and BRANDEN & Shane Thornton. She was an adventurous Mema to 19 grandchildren and a GiGi to 24 great grandchildren. Harriet is also survived by her siblings, Sharon Hull and Floyd Durfey, as well as step children Dean Morrow & Patty Sroufe, Brent & Deeann Morrow and grandson Stephen Morrow.  She was preceded in death by her parents Harry and Beulah Durfey, son and grandson Craig and Dylan Thornton, and her beloved husband, Derrell.

Harriet’s love for music led her to become a piano teacher and later attain a Bachelor of Music degree from Cameron University. She was classically trained and shared her gift by serving as an accompanist, Music Minister and in Praise Bands in her churches. Her home was always filled with wondrous music.

In her leisure time, Harriet enjoyed painting, crocheting and light gardening. Over the years, Harriet and many of her grandkids created cherished memories while enjoying trips and exciting adventures made on several “Grandma’s Weeks”.  She worshipped at First Church of God in Lawton and Meadowcreek United Methodist Church in Collinsville, OK.

Harriet Ann Morrow’s legacy of love, unwavering devotion to her faith, using the gifts God gave and the love of music will continue to live on in our fond memories. leaving an indelible mark on the hearts of those she touched. Surely as the moon and stars appear in the night sky, Harriet heard as she arrived in Heaven, angels rejoicing and singing “Welcome Home God’s true and faithful servant”.

A church celebration will be held July 7, 10:00 a.m. at Meadowcreek United Methodist church and a family celebration will be held next year in Collinsville, OK.
