Gary Riggs was born in Renton, WA on June 9, 1942 to Torrence and Edith (Loggan) Riggs. They later moved to Dearing, KS where Gary completed 8th grade before moving to Collinsville, OK in February 1956.
He was an active member of the Baptist Tabernacle Church since the summer of 1956 where he was active in the CBT youth group until graduation in May 1960. After graduation, Gary received his Associates Degree in Mechanical Engineering from Coffeyville Junior College.
In October 1962 he met Deanna Stephens and they married on April 10, 1964. This past April was their 57th wedding anniversary. Gary served in the Air National Guard from July 1964 until he went to work for Ford Glass Plant in July 1974. He worked at the glass plant until March 1, 1991 when he medically retired. Gary also served on the Collinsville School Board for 5 years in the late 1980’s being able to hand his daughters their diplomas. Gary and Dee were Sunday School nursery teachers for many years. Many of the little guys called him Poppa Gary.
Gary passed from this life to be with his Heavenly Father on August 15, 2021.
Visitation will be Noon to 8:00 pm, Thursday, August 19, 2021 at the Collinsville Dolton Funeral Home. The family will be present from 5:00 pm to 7:00.
Memorial services will be 2:00 pm, Friday, August 20, 2021 at the Baptist Tabernacle Church with Rev. Gary Boyd officiating.
Gary Riggs is survived by his wife Deanna of the home; daughters Teri Horner and husband Tracy; Tina Schmauss and husband Mike; Toni Thomason and husband Brandon. Grandchildren, Brittni Rea and husband Micaiah; Brandon Schmauss and wife Aimee; Christin Mitchell and husband Curtis; Logan Horner; Paige Thomason and husband Stephan; Morgan Thomason; Camden Thomason; great-grandson Lawson Rea; his brother Carrol Riggs and his Aunt Shirley Riggs. Gary was preceded in death by his parents Torrence and Edith Riggs; brother Don Riggs and sister-in-law Liz Riggs; grandson Keaton Todd Horner.
