Freda E. Disch

DISCH - Freda E., 83, went to be with her Lord on June 10, 2008 after a valiant battle with cancer. Born to Mary B. and Millard F. Terrill on August 2, 1924 in Collinsville, OK, Freda was preceded in death by her beloved brother and sister, Oren M. and Vergie E. Terrill. Freda graduated from Oklahoma A&M in Stillwater, OK where she was a member of the Kappa Delta sorority and one of the first two women in the university’s marching band. There she met the love of her life, Lyle C. Disch, whom she married in 1947. While raising their two daughters, Freda taught junior high English and was a secretary in the history department at the University of Tulsa. She was a longtime active member in P.E.O. and was serving on the Caney Valley Medical Board at the time of her death. For over 40 years she was a faithful member of Yale Avenue Presbyterian Church in Tulsa. Freda enjoyed singing in the choir, playing the bells and serving as elder. She will be remembered for her beautiful soprano voice, gifted gardening, and her love of tennis, fishing and family history. A wonderful mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Freda lived a joyful life of strength and dignity. “Her children rise up and call her blessed; her husband also…” (Proverbs 31:28). She will be greatly missed by her husband of more than sixty years, Lyle; her daughter and son-in-law, Carolyn and Gary Been; her daughter, Linda Stubbs; her granddaughters and their husbands, Erin and Pete Scribner, Laura and Tyson Sturgeon, Sarah and Jeff Stevens, Rachel Stubbs and Audra Stubbs; her great-grandchildren, Jack and Caroline Scribner, and Coldren and Piercen Sturgeon; as well as a great number of nieces, nephews and dear friends. Funeral service Friday, June 13 at 10 a.m. at Yale Avenue Presbyterian Church. Interment will follow at the Ridgelawn Cemetery in Collinsville. Funeral services are under the direction of Collinsville Dolton Funeral Home. Contributions may be made to Yale Avenue Presbyterian Church or Caney Valley Medical Foundation.
