Ella Hendrix Hanner passed in her sleep at home on November 29, 2017 in Talala, OK at the age of 80.
Ella is survived by her siblings, Birk Hendrix and wife, Jean, Orville Hendrix and wife, Mary, Jerry Hendrix and wife, Kathy, Leon Hendrix, Lloyd Hendrix, Carolyn Hendrix, Carl Hendrix and wife, Vanessa, Julie Hendrix, her children, Seretha Pavey and husband Bruce, Jacqueline Mainord and husband Barry Hall, Melody Hanner, Donald Hanner and wife Betty, her 4 grandchildren, Lisa, Troy, Samantha, and Sarah, and 6 great grandchildren Taylor, Allyson, Adrienne, Keith, Tabitha, Ella and MacKayla, many nieces and nephews and others who considered her their Nana. She is preceded in death by her parents Daniel Birk Hendrix and Flora Nelson Hendrix of Goldsby, brother, Darrell Brent Hendrix of Goldsby, and by her son Troy Keith Mainord of Talala.
Ella was born on May 6 th , 1937 in Goldsby, Oklahoma, and was the eldest of 10 children born to Daniel Birk Hendrix and Flora Nelson Hendrix. She graduated from Washington High School, married Troy Clyde Mainord of Purcell, had 3 children, and attended nursing school in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Ella worked as an LPN in Purcell until 1972. In 1967, she was divorced from Troy. She later met and married Claudie Don Hanner of Rosedale. He had two children, Donald and Melody Hanner. In 1972, Don and Ella with their 5 children moved to Tulsa where Don worked at American Airlines and Ella worked at the Nowata Hospital. After several years Ella left the nursing profession to begin her own interior drapery fabrication business. Don and Ella instilled in their children a strong sense of fun, family, and responsibility.
Ella had a strong sense of community and civic responsibility. She served as a member of the Talala Town Council and as the mayor of Talala. She was also very involved in the Talala Library.
A funeral is scheduled for 10:00am December 4 th at the Oologah United Methodist Church, with internment to follow at the Fairview Cemetary in Talala, Ok. Reverend Linda McGowen will officiate the ceremony. A reception will follow at the Talala American Legion Hut. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Ella's life.
