Edward L. “Sonny” Holmes of Collinsville, was born October 6, 1934 in Carrizoso, New Mexico to Ray and Murna Holmes.
He died Saturday, May 26th, 2007, in Collinsville after a three year battle with cancer at the age of 72.
He graduated from Collinsville High School with the class of 1952. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and was stationed in Japan. He later served on the maiden voyage of the USS Ranger that circled South America.
He worked as an Inspector Expediter and traveled to Holland, Japan, Korea, and India. After retiring in Collinsville did part time work at Kohl’s in Owasso.
Survived by his wife of 50 years, Pat Holmes of the home; Son and Daughter-in-Law, Kevin and Terri Holmes of Jenks; Daughters and Sons-in-Law, Daena and Gary Miller of Collinsville and Lisa and Jeff Jones of Collinsville; Sisters and Brother-in-Law, Joyce and Tom Payne of Owasso and Joann Murphy of Sapulpa; 8 Grandchildren; and 2 Great Grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his Parents, Ray and Murna Holmes; a Brother, Jerry Holmes; Son, Alan Holmes; and Granddaughter Jayme Renee Pollard.
Services will be held 10:00 A.M. Wednesday, May 30, 2007 at Church of the Nazarene. Rev. Jim Carney will officiate. Interment will be at Ridgelawn Cemetery. Services were under the direction of Collinsville Funeral Home.
