Edith Lillian Johnson Mitchell

August 9, 1917 — August 23, 2010

Edith Lillian Johnson Mitchell, aged 93, of Collinsville, Oklahoma, died Monday, August 23rd, 2010 at Evergreen Care Center of Owasso after an illness.

Edith was born the third of four children in Collinsville, Oklahoma on August 9, 1917 to Charles E. Ridgel and Anna Bell Click. She was educated and grew up in Collinsville before marrying Lloyd “Buck” Johnson on May 1, 1937. She and Buck traveled before he was sent overseas during World War II. During that time, Edith worked for the Federal Reserve Bank and was bookkeeper for Buck’s business after the war ended.

After the war, Edith and Buck had two daughters: Judith Ann and Janice Kay. As she was raising a family, she was active in the United Methodist Church of Collinsville which she had attended since the age of eight. Edith served on several committees, was active in the Women’s Circle and even served as church treasurer for over 30 years. During the 1950s and 60s, she was often a delegate to the Annual Conference of the Methodist Church. Edith was always helping her church and community by helping organize chicken pie dinners, visits to shut-ins and the church prayer line. She also was a member of Eastern Star, the Home Representatives Club, and PEO, but her favorite activity was caring for her grandchildren.

A few years after Buck’s death in 1981, she married I.K. Mitchell. In their 15 years of marriage, they enjoyed traveling and spending time with family.

Edith was preceded in death by her husband Lloyd Johnson in 1981, her second husband, I.K. Mitchell in 1998, and her daughter, Judith Johnson in 2009. Edith is survived by her sister Mary Ellene Reynolds of El Sobrante, California; her daughter Janice Pollard and her husband Ken of Collinsville; her five grandchildren: Carlyn Heinrichs and her husband Dale of Owasso, Oklahoma, Darren Johnson and his wife Cindy of Collinsville, Oklahoma, Dianne Marquez and her husband Reyes of Lovington, New Mexico, Brady Pollard and his wife Angel of Olathe, Kansas and Courtney Pollard and his wife Laura of Skiatook; and her nine great-grandchildren: Madalyn, Seth and Mason Heinrichs, Andrew Johnson, Ryan and Sabrina Marquez, Caleb and Gentry Pollard, and Adeline Pollard, all of whom knew her fondly as “Nana.”

Visitation will be 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Friday, August 27, 2010 with the family present from 4:00 to 7:00 at the Collinsville Dolton Funeral Home.

Funeral Services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, August 28, 2010 at the Meadowcreek United Methodist Church with Rev. Brian Mangan officiating. Interment will follow at the Ridgelawn Cemetery in Collinsville. Services are under the direction of Collinsville Dolton Funeral Home.
