Dorothy Adaline (Barnes) Peace, a proud Oklahoma centenarian, passed away peacefully at the age of 101. Born on June 8, 1923, on Javine Hill northwest of Skiatook, Oklahoma, she was one of ten children born to Simon Barnes and Ivy Nell (Metzger) Barnes.
Visitation will be 12:00 pm to 8:00 pm, Thursday, August 29, 2024, at the Collinsville Dolton Funeral Home. The family will be present from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm.
Funeral services will be 10:00 am, Friday, August 30, 2024, at the New Hope Free Will Baptist Church, 11501 S 4060 Rd, Oologah, OK 74053, with Rev. David Bilby and Pastor Ken Peace officiating. Interment will follow at the Wann Cemetery.
Dorothy attended Snarr School, where she met the love of her life, Amos Ervin Peace. They married on January 6, 1939, in rural Talala and shared 58 wonderful years together. Together, they raised their children, teaching them the values of faith, hard work, and love for family.
Throughout her life, Dorothy worked at Gateway Luggage, Dairyland, and for the Oklahoma Dairy Association. After retiring, she found joy in cooking at the Prairie Grove Campground for youth camps with the Northeast Oklahoma Association of Free Will Baptists. She was a devoted member of New Hope Free Will Baptist Church in Oologah, Oklahoma, where her faith and love for Jesus were known to all.
Dorothy cherished the memories made during trips to Yellowstone, the Grand Canyon, Idaho, Tennessee, and Texas. Her favorite holiday was Christmas, a time when she celebrated the birth of Jesus and enjoyed the company of her beloved family.
Over her 101 years, Dorothy witnessed incredible changes, from riding horses to driving motor vehicles, from coal oil lamps to electricity, and from drawing water by hand to simply turning on a faucet. Yet, through all these changes, her greatest honor remained being a wife, mother, grandmother, and a minister's wife.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, all of her siblings, her husband Amos, and five of her children: Ervin Peace, Amos "Everett" Peace, Leonard "Inky" Peace, Francis Peace Robinson, and Simon "Hank" Peace. She is survived by her daughters Bonita Ann Hanes of Claremore, Donna Jo McDonald of Nowata, daughters-in-law Zaundra Peace of Dewey, and Brenda Peace of Claremore. Her legacy also lives on through her 11 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren, 50 great-great-grandchildren, one great-great-great-grandchild and a host of cherished cousins, nieces and nephews.
Dorothy's love for Jesus and her family was unwavering. She was known for her steadfast faith, her diligent prayers for family and friends, and her wisdom in encouraging others to "get in church and work for the Lord" and to "listen to the doctor." Those that knew her knew not to sass or run from her. Her presence will be deeply missed, but her memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
