Donna Kay (Young) Coen was born February 2, 1961, toJack Edward Young
and Wanda Fern (Tackett) Young in lndependence, MO. She grew up in Collinsville,
OK near her grandparents which were a big influence on her life. She went to
school in Collinsville Public Schools. She graduated in 1979 from Collinsville High
School. After a short stint in Job Corp, she went to college at Northeastern State
University in Tahlequah, OK. During that time, she met her future husband John B
Coen. She graduated from NSU with a bachelor's degree in Elementary Education
in Dec. of 1982. The couple were married July 30, 1983, while John was stationed
at Ft. Hood, TX as a serviceman. They made their home in Killeen, TX for 14 years.
During that time, Donna was employed by the Killeen ISD as an elementary
teacher. She taught several grade levels from 3'd to 5th grades. ln 1997, Donna and
John moved back to the Collinsville - Owasso area to be near the Young family.
They moved to Owasso in 1998 where they have resided since. Donna was
employed by the Oolagah/Talala ISD as a teacher from 1999 until 2017 when a
back injury disabled her and forced her to leave teaching. During that time, she
taught several different grade levels. She also volunteered to teach Sunday school
and helped with Vacation Bible School at 1st Baptist Church of Collinsville for many
years. Donna suffered a stroke in February of 2O22. This forced her into a nursing
facility. She resided at North County Nursing Home in Collinsville until her passing.
She was proceeded in death by her parents Jack and Fern Young. She is
survived by her husband, John Coen, her brother Russell Young and wife Mary of
Collinsville, her brother Bryan Young and wife Ramona of Collinsville, along with
many nieces and nephews and their families. She was a loving wife to John for 40
years and the true passions of her life were her many nieces and nephews and
grand nieces and nephews. Aunt Donna loved to dote on them and was always up
for an adventure that often led to mischief and messes. While she was a force of
joy and fun, she was a listening ear and compass, always showing them
unconditional love. She loved her nieces and nephews as her own, and she will be
deeply missed by them.
A celebration of her life will be held on March 1,2024 at 11:00am, at 1st Baptist Church of
Collinsville with Dr. Tim Prock officiating.
