Demetrius (Dee, Mr.K.) Kamalakis of Oologah, Oklahoma passed away on June 12,2020 at the age of 85 after a long illness. Demetrius was born in Savannah, Georgia on March 4,1935 to Father Emmanuel Kamalakis and Mother Bonnie Chloa Calhoun Kamalakis. Demetrius met Lavona Lee Cash at the First Baptist Church in Enid Oklahoma and on December 5, 1958 they were married and had three children, Pamala Lee, Demetrius II, and Jason Meril.. They were married for 61 years.
Demetrius served in the Air Force from June 1, 1957 to September 11, 1960. As a civilian, he served in Vietnam in 1971 repairing damaged aircraft. He loved airplanes and was an aircraft mechanic at McDonnell Douglas where he retired in 1996.
Demetrius loved the outdoors and enjoyed camping and fishing. He served in the Boy Scouts of America as a Scout Master for 15 years and was promoted to District Commissioner. On February 7, 1987 the Indian Nations Council nominated him for the Silver Beaver Award for Distinguished Service to Youth.
In 1975 Demetrius moved his family to Oologah so that he could retire near a lake. He would go fishing below the Oologah Dam and loved to camp at Hawthorn Bluff and Redbud Bay. Demetrius was a member of the First Baptist Church of Oologah, The Order of the Eastern Star Chapter #473 in Oologah, Oologah Masonic Lodge #343 in 1984, joined the Tulsa Scottish Rite in 1985 and was also a member of the Collinsville Masonic Lodge.
Demetrius was preceded in death by his parents, his 3 sisters: Mary Page, Martha O’Brian, and Joy Hand, his 4 brothers : George, Mitchel, Joseph, and David, and 1 Great Granddaughter Madison Ann Low. He is survived by his wife Lavona Lee Cash Kamalakis of Oologah, Children Pamala Lee, and husband Clay Holbert of Tuttle, Oklahoma, Demetrius II and wife Wendy Gail Kamalakis of Brentwood, California, and Jason Meril and wife Julie Kamalakis of South Tulsa. Grandchildren: Christopher Edmond and wife Sarah Ann Low of Midwest City Oklahoma, Brittney Lee Low of Del City Oklahoma, Mikaela Renee and Husband Christopher Ross Frumusa of Oakley California, and Nicholas Owen Kamalakis of Brentwood California who is currently attending Grand Canyon University in Arizona and Christian Migues, Great Grandchildren: Jacob Edmond, Dalton Lee, and Lily Madison Low of Midwest City Oklahoma and Hazel Grace from Oakley California.
Visitation will be held Thursday, June 18 from 12 pm to 8 pm at the Collisnville Dolton Funeral Home. The Funeral Service will be held at the First Baptist Church of Collinsville, OK. on June 19 at 10:00 am with Dr. Tim Prock officiating. With the burial at the Talala Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Collinsville Dolton Funeral Home.
