David Emmett King, 55, of Collinsville, OK passed away Tuesday, March 24, 2009 in Owasso. He was born July 10, 1953 in Emmett, Idaho to Emmett and Virginia King.
David was an avid fan of OU sports, both basketball and football. He was very excited about this year’s teams and followed them closely.
David was a 1971 graduate of Collinsville High School, playing basketball, football, and running track. He graduated from Northeastern State University with a Bachelors Degree in Physical Education and a minor in Biology. David was a member of Phi-Sig fraternity at NSU and an honorary member of Phi-Lams, where he continued long friendships today.
David was a driver for UPS for 11 years with his route being in the Collinsville area, where he made many friends along the way. He later did construction work for Peevy Construction in Tulsa.
David was married to Cheryl Ashby and they recently celebrated their 14th Anniversary. He has two beloved sons, Kacey David King and Michael David King. David was a proud stepfather to Cheryl’s children, grand children, and great grandchildren.
David was a member of St. Therese Catholic Church of Collinsville, and volunteered for many projects through the years.
David was a generous person, with both his time and his assets. He never refused a plea for help and would do anything someone asked him to do. He devoted much time with his mother, taking time to build flower gardens, drive her to church and doctor appointments. His passing leaves a vacancy in her life. David was a loving son and father and will be greatly missed by family and friends. He was very outgoing and was friendly to everyone.
David is survived by his wife Cheryl King of the home; his mother, Virginia King of Collinsville; 2 sons, Kacey David King and his wife Melissa and Michael David King and his wife Danielle all of Owasso; 3 stepchildren, Regina Johnson and her husband Danny of Skiatook, Dusty Rhodes and his wife Cheryl of Siloam Springs, AR, and Rebecca Rasberry and her husband James of Avant; 1 sister, Linda Tripp of Spokane, WA; 1 brother, Bill Oliver King and his wife Donna of Skiatook, 1 foster brother Billy Helton of Hominy; 2 grandchildren, Catelynn and Lily Rose King; 9 stepgrandchildren, 2 great grandchildren; 1 nephew, Jeffrey Jay; 3 nieces, Heather, Amanda, and Christie; and numerous family and friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Emmett Leslie King.
Rosary: 7:00 p.m., Friday, March 27, 2009 at St. Therese Catholic Church.
Funeral Mass: 3:00 p.m., Saturday, March 28, 2009 at St. Therese Catholic Church.
