David Wayne Hayes passed away on Thursday, July 31, 2025, at his home in Owasso, Oklahoma.
A kind and loving man, he tried to see the Lord’s purpose in all aspects of his life, including a diagnosis of cancer. David was born on May 12, 1951, in Red Bank, Tennessee to George and Ora Hayes (Bowers). When David was 18, he married his high school sweetheart, Paula Rose, bearing his first son, Shawn David Hayes in 1970. In 1990, David married Julianne (Burt) and from that union had two children, Patrick Taylor Hayes and Dr. Sarah Marie Sanchez (Hayes). He was blessed with considering a niece and nephew, David Kleman and Amber Kleman as his “bonus children.”
David is survived by his wife, Julianne, sons Shawn (Beth) and Patrick, daughter Sarah (Chase), niece Amber, her children Noah and Orie, David (Sarah) and their child Patrick. He is also survived by his brother Randy (Alice) and sister, Tina, along with many other cousins.
David was proud to have worked for The Crosby Group for over 45 years, retiring as Director of Operations in 2017. His career began in Ft. Wayne, Indiana, continued to Arlington, Texas and finally to Tulsa, Oklahoma. David’s career has provided the bounty of many cherished friendships across the years and through his retirement. David had a passion for golf, music, travel, and most of all, his church. He spent his adult life in service to others, honoring the “nudge” of the Holy Spirit. David served as a Lay Leader at Meadowcreek and also as a Lay Minister for the United Methodist Church. To write sermons that reached the hearts of those who heard them was always his goal. Since 2022, David delivered more than 80 sermons at multiple churches in Oklahoma.
His devoted and loving wife, Julianne, had been a wonderful companion and tireless caregiver. He was loved deeply by Julianne’s family; Mike and Carol Burt, Linda Burt, Erik Gratteau and his children, Rebecca and Cade Gratteau.
