David Michael “Cotton” Fowler of Collinsville passed away on March 9th, 2024, at the youthful age of 72. David was born on December 3rd, 1951, to Herbert Calvin and Shirley (Carter) Fowler. David was raised in Collinsville, Oklahoma, on a dairy farm, working cattle and pigs with his family. Spending most of his young years showing livestock, traveling the United States, and winning many awards. David went to Germany for his senior trip, where he enjoyed the culture and learned a colorful language. David enjoyed square dancing with his family, hunting with his sons and friends, fishing, canning, cooking, and quilting, a great gift his mother and grandmother taught him. Working and farm life was a large part of his pastime, such as working in the hay field, tending to his cattle, and breeding a solid line of show goats for the grandkids to show. David was a member of the FFA all through high school; through his adult years, David was a member of the steelworker’s union and his favorite organization, the American Dairy Goat Association. If there was a great idea to make a little money, David was the first on board or the first to help a charity or stranger. David was a caring man. He did not hesitate to help those in need. This started as a young man at the young age of 21, not hesitating to give his father one of his kidneys to lengthen his life. David spent 42 years as an industrial painter for Crane Carrier Company until retirement. David made lifelong friends at CCC and gained his forever nickname, Cotton. Spending time with his grandkids was a joy for David. Attending goat shows and motocross races or spend time grilling burgers for the whole family in the pool. David was a friend to all and an enemy to only a few. An ear to listen, a voice of advice, a solid shoulder to lean on a true legend, ask his kids.
David is survived by his four children, Tonia and Jerold Smith of Mason, Oklahoma; Michael Fowler of Collinsville, Oklahoma; Jason and Lisa Fowler of Collinsville, Oklahoma; Amanda and Joe Metzger of Collinsville, Oklahoma. The Mother of his children and lifelong best friend, Donna Tuxbury of Collinsville, Oklahoma. His two sisters, Margaret and Marty Carter of Owasso, Oklahoma, and Lynn Camp of Tulsa, Oklahoma. Six grandchildren, Jordan Fowler, Joseph Metzger, Whitney Fowler, Clarissa Smith, Kelsey Smith, and Cadence Smith, and numerous extended family and friends. David was preceded in death by his parents, Herbert Calvin and Shirley Fowler.
