Danny Lee Cheney

Danny Lee Cheney of Collinsville, Oklahoma peacefully went to be with his Lord on May 31, 2021 at 2:15 am, after his four year battle against leukemia. He fought a hard fight, and he fought it with resilience until the time God prepared to bring him home.

Danny was born in Collinsville, Oklahoma on August 29, 1957 to Virgil Wiley Cheney and Cecil Lenora Cheney. As a child, Danny spent much of his time playing with his brothers and sisters outdoors raising wild animals. He had a pet crow named Joe, and a turtle that returned to him every year for 14 years. Danny showed an aptitude for art and creativity early on in his life as he spent much of his time drawing, painting and building things; an aptitude he would later pass on to his children. Danny was also an entrepreneur, even as a child, when he sold crawdads to local bait shops, and had a fireworks stand at age 14 that he built himself. Danny graduated high school at Collinsville High School, and attended Tulsa Vo-Tech during high school for commercial art, and was active in FFA and loved the outdoors. After high school, Danny custom designed a van, which he named Dreamweaver, and drove it across the country from coast to coast. He was a hard worker, and was never without a job.

In 1979 Danny met his future wife, Christy, at the 20 ^th Century Dance Club. It was a God-ordained appointment. Danny received salvation of faith after meeting Christy, and they were married on April 25, 1981 at St. Francis Xavier Church in Tulsa, Oklahoma. They moved to Mannford, Oklahoma where together they built a house, with the help of many family and friends. Danny and Christy became members of Freedom Hill Baptist Church in 1982 where they remained faithful members to this day, and Danny became the music minister, a position he would hold for 25 years, only retiring from the position due to his fight against leukemia. Danny impacted the church and the community in countless ways, as he faithfully served the Lord during his life.

As an adult, Danny worked a myriad of jobs, including a stint as a clock maker, where he designed and carved beautiful clocks out of wood. He later moved in to the oil and gas industry, where he retired as a sales representative for Marathon Flow Control, where he worked for 14 years.

Danny had a creative mind, and would spend much of his spare time in his shop working with wood, designing and creating toys, clocks, and home furnishings. He loved doing illusions and magic tricks to bring a smile to those around him. Danny loved people. He loved the Lord, and he loved his family.

Danny was preceded in death by his father Virgil Cheney, and his brother Randy Cheney. Danny is survived by his wife Christy Cheney, his two children: Ben Cheney and Sara Elmore, one son-in-law Austin Elmore, one grandchild Judah Elmore, his mother Cecil Cheney, one brother Bobby Cheney, two sisters: Cathy Matthews and Susie Cheney, a loving extended family, a dear family of in-laws, and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be Noon to 8:00 pm on Thursday, June 3, 2021 at Collinsville Dolton Funeral Home. The family will be present from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm.

We celebrated Danny’s life on Friday, June 4, 2021 at 1:00pm at Freedom Hill Baptist Church in Mannford, Oklahoma. He will be laid to rest at Ridgelawn Cemetery in Collinsville, Oklahoma. We give thanks to God for Danny and his life, and the years we had with him.
