Charles Daniels Hille was born in Collinsville, Oklahoma, on August 12, 1918, to Dr. Henry Lewis Hille and Aletha Coffey Hille. Charles was only two months old when his mother died during the influenza epidemic that spread across the country that year. His father married Dell G. Hille in 1922, and she took charge of raising Charles and his two older brothers. Another son was born, and these four Hille boys developed a camaraderie that was to be lifelong. They loved the outdoors, and hunting and fishing with their father was a regular weekend activity. Charles accompanied Dr. Hille in his horse and buggy as he made house calls to patients in and around Collinsville. Thereby grew his
early love of medicine. Charles attended Oklahoma University where he became a member of Sigma Chi Fraternity, and upon graduating, Charles enlisted in the Army Air Corps and served in Europe during World War II. He was the navigator on a C-47 troop transport plane, and his plane was one of the ones that dropped the paratroopers behind enemy lines the night before the assault on Normandy, June 6, 1944. He always liked to tease that his plane dropped them in the correct place. After the war he entered Baylor Medical School, and upon graduation, began his practice in Port Arthur, Texas. He later joined his former medical school roommate, Dr. Ted Trimble, in a general practice clinic in Wylie, Texas. There he remained until his retirement in 1997 at the age of 79. He then moved to Ketchum, Oklahoma, to be near family. His gentleness, his wit, his boundless generosity, his warmth and charm will be greatly missed. He is preceded in death by his parents and stepmother, his brothers Henry L. Hille, Jr., Joseph W. Hille, and Donald G. Hille, and his nephew Jo Bob Hille. He is survived by nieces Jana H. Bradley, husband Dave, and Mary Ann Hille. He is also survived by extended family Leslie Hamrick, husband Mark, Children Emma and Evan, Sheila Lequerica, husband C.J., children Lily and Joe Bob, Maggie Yar, husband Kajeer, children Gus, Theo, and Ruby, Carol Cooper, husband Keith, child Will, and Clint Bradley and Cory Hille. Also survived by Amber Campbell, husband Darrell, child Sailor, Devin Hitt, husband Chris, and Brie Foster. A Memorial Service will be held at the Collinsville Dolton Funeral Home Chapel, 1302 West Main, Collinsville, Oklahoma, Saturday, March 1, 2008, at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers the family requests that contributions be sent to St. Simeon’s Episcopal Home, 3701 N.
