Anna Bonita Durman, “Bonnie”, age 79, longtime resident of Collinsville, Oklahoma, passed away Wednesday, July 6, 2022 at her home surrounded by her family.
Visitation will be Sunday, 1:30 pm to 6:00 pm at the Collinsville Dolton Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be Monday, 2:00 pm at the First Baptist Church of Collinsville with Dr. Tim Prock officiating. Interment will follow at the Ridgelawn Cemetery.
Bonnie was born in Granite, Oklahoma on February 3, 1943 to her parents Ardis Burl Bowen and Edna Ann (Stehr) Bowen. During her childhood Bonnie lived in many places. She started school at Lakecreek, Ok where she remembers picking cotton with her Grandpa Stehr. Her family then moved to Asher, Wanette, and then Oklahoma City. They also spent some time in Wichita, Kansas and Altura, Co. Bonnie was the 8

grade valedictorian at her school in Altura. She started high school at a large school in Aurora, Colorado before moving back to Asher. Bonnie was the valdictorian of the class of 1961 from Asher High School. She went on to East Central State College in Ada, Oklahoma. While at East Central she participated in an exchange program where she attended college in Boston, Massachusetts for one semester. Bonnie graduated from East Central, class of 1964 with a bachelor of science in education. She started her elementary teaching career in Boise City, Oklahoma where she taught for two years. While in Boise City, she met the love her life Douglas Arnold Durman, and they were married on May 13, 1966. They enjoyed forty-two years of marriage together until Doug’s death in 2008. As a young married couple, Bonnie and Doug moved to Clayton, New Mexico where Bonnie continued her teaching career. After living in Clayton they moved to the Tulsa area where she taught at Owasso Public Schools. In 1969 they settled in Collinsville, Oklahoma where they bought their home to start raising their family. A few years later, Bonnie started teaching fifth grade at Collinsville Public Schools where she taught 38 years until she retired in 2007. Bonnie was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church of Collinsville where she taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School. In her retirement years, Bonnie enjoyed reading, crocheting, gardening, bird watching, shopping and going out to eat with her best friend Sharon Bean. She also enjoyed playing dominoes and bunko with her friends. Most of all, she treasured being a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and teacher. She will truly be missed.
Preceded in death by her husband, Doug Durman; and her parents Burl and Edna Bowen; Bonnie is survived by her three children, Angela Beryl Machado and her husband Tim; Thomas Earl Durman; and Anthony Douglas Durman; her brother, Dwight Bowen and his wife Jerie; her granddaughters, Tonya Layne Durman and Alexis Marie Durman; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, other family members and many friends
