Avery Eugene Allen
September 8, 1944 – May 29, 2025
Avery Eugene Allen, 80, passed away peacefully at home in Oologah, Oklahoma, on May 29, 2025, after a long illness.
Born in Fargo, North Dakota, to Frank M. and O.Irma Allen. Avery was the youngest of three sons. He graduated from Alameda High School in 1962, Denver, Colorado. He enlisted in the U.S. Air Force, where he was commissioned as a Captain and served in military intelligence, with assignments in Japan, Pakistan, Denver, and Cheyenne.
After his military service, Avery worked as an insurance underwriter and served as President of the Underwriters Union in Denver, Colorado. He returned to school to earn a master’s degree in psychotherapy and worked for over 20 years as a psychotherapist for the Oklahoma Department of Corrections at the Ouachita Correctional Facility, now known as the Jim E. Hamilton Correctional Center in Hodgen, Oklahoma.
An avid reader, Avery also cherished the open road on his motorcycle, the view from the cockpit, capturing treasured photographs of his loved ones, researching his family's roots, and adding to his prized coin and stamp collection.
He is survived by his wife, Sara Parker Allen; his three daughters, Melisa Allen, Ilona Allen Bartleson, and Rachael Allen Goff; two brothers Spencer Allen and Kent Allen; fifteen grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
A private memorial will be held in June. In lieu of flowers the family is accepting donations to fund Veterans Adaptive Pickleball https://gofund.me/68daf7fb.
He was a man of quiet integrity, deep intellect, and enduring love for his family.
